With Ohio now ranked at #25 in the AP and just outside the top 25 in the Coaches and BCS, which teams should I be pulling for (or rooting against) this weekend to help pull us higher up the rankings during our bye week?

#3 Oregon over Arizona State (#26 in front of us at #27 in the BCS I believe)
#4 Kansas State over #13 WVU (this one may not matter, but I could see some voters putting us over WVU if this is a huge blowout)
#6 LSU over #18 A&M (The bigger the blowout the better)
#17 Texas Tech over #23 TCU (Either way this probably helps us, so I would just go with the team we are closer to passing in the polls)
Toledo over #21 UC  (This would be huge for multiple reasons.)
Nebraska/Northwestern is important, but I don't know who to root for.  Short-term Northwestern would definitely pass us if they win, but at the same time their only loss is Penn State...  In the long-run them doing good probably isn't a bad thing.

I just stuck with ranked teams vs. ranked teams except for those last two, but there are A TON of upsets that could help us.  You really can't go wrong rooting for any of the teams in the bottom part of the BCS Top 25 getting upset.

I'd go for Penn St over Iowa just to make our win look that much better.

Toledo over UC would be good.  UC's schedule hasn't been that impressive: 2 1AA schools, an awful (at the time at least) Pitt, a down VT and Fiami.  A Toledo win would likely knock the Bearcats out of the top 25 and give the MAC a 7th win vs. AQ schools.

I'd also go for Cal over Stanford, and a Baylor win over Texas would help with the all-important Coaches poll.

And just for good measure, let's take WMU over Kent.  I'd feel better if Kent had a loss or two when we get there.

I agree with most of this except for the part about the big blowouts. I don't think "style points" are doing much this year.

It's binary, win or go down in the rankings.

I am cheering for Kent up until Ohio.  If they can win out until then (including a win over ranked Rutgers), we could get serious pollster respect for beating them.

The best thing Ohio can hope for is if everybody loses at least once. I want Arizona State upsetting Oregon, I want Kansas State to be upset by someone, I want Alabama to lose to LSU and I definitely want those three Big East teams to all beat each other.

WHY? I think Ohio gets more respect being the only undefeated team in the country. If all hell breaks loose and Ohio is the only undefeated left standing, that means a helluva lot more in my opinion. Granted, there is no way we are going to pass up teams like Bama, LSU, SCar, UGA, Florida, USC, Oregon, ND or Miss State with one loss, but seeing a zero in a loss column gets more and more attractive as the season goes on.

Even if our schedule sucks, an undefeated campaign followed by a MAC Championship deserves some kind of notariety from the voters if everyone else loses one or more game.

Promote CHAOS.

This just in from Confucius ...

It better that Bobcat fall from favor by doing nothing than by being humbled by Flying Suck.

Va Tech over Clemson would be good.  A three loss team beating them at home would probably drop them out of the Top 25.

Va Tech is giving #19 Clemson a game as well.

I am rooting for the Owls to win the Big East.

I'd rather have Rutgers win this week and then lose next week against Kent State

TCU down to Texas Tech as well. That would be a huge outcome if TCU loses.

If you really want to look big picture and still have a fantasy of a BCS bowl, Notre Dame losing 14-10 to BYU with 2:25 left in 3rd.

Actually, Notre Dame changes little for us.  We don't actually compete with them for a BCS spot since they are guaranteed a spot if they get in the top 8 and we are guaranteed a spot if we are in the top 12, are the highest rated non-AQ (Notre Dame is an AQ), and  are a conference champion (this is what got Boise in trouble last year).  So, assuming we can get to the top 12, the ONLY team that can keep us out is Boise State since they are ranked above us and may stay that way if they keep winning.

Notre Dame losing multiple games then takes them out of discussion for a spot and moves them down the BCS rankings, so it would help us.  Doesn't matter, officials have an odd way of throwing flags or calling plays dead in their favor.

I was concerned about Boise for awhile, but now I'm confident we can jump them.  Much more concerned about actually staying undefeated.
