I know a lot of people here can't stand Scott Torgerson (a sports talk show host in Columbus ICYDK), so I thought you might be interested to know he is officially no longer with 97.1 FM...

So, what happened? Was it just to put on Kirk and Des? That's not a better option.

No but it was due to him wishing ill upon Des via Twitter.  Before anyone gives 97.1 or any Columbus media outlet credit for having a conscience, this is quite obviously a move in support of Herbie's ESPN brethren.  All they did was identify the right ring to kiss and act upon it (much the same as Hooley's firing).

And Hooley's firing was one of the worst decisions in my opinion. He was the best guy they had, and he had the top rated show.

It was a matter of time before the Torg said something to offend someone that got him fired/suspended.  He was always saying things that ticked people off.

Don't like Hooley much up here in NE Ohio.  He's very dismissive of the MAC and the Bobcats in particular.  Called our basketball team a "bunch of chuckers" after Michigan win in March.

Sorry, this is hardly news of any consequence. One yuckeye shill d-bag will get replaced by another yuckeye shill d-bag.  They're like shark teeth.  Always one waiting in the wings to replace the fallen.

Whether you liked him or not his firing was not warranted for the comment he made.  He made an apology directly to Desmond Howard and his family and was suspended for his actions.  Sounds like the station catered to the will of ESPN since they are an affiliate.

Apology or not, he wished Desmond would die or get fired so he could watch gameday again.

I personally love the Torg, and I HATE the Suckeyes. To see him get fired with no severance package, all over what was clearly a joke and in my mind wasn't even that distasteful, is just shameful. Shame on 97.1's big wigs for caving into the pressure from ESPN and for letting a bum like Herbstreit influence their decisions

I don't really care whether he's fired or not, but what he said is in completely poor taste. And those two clowns are the embodiment of every local sports hack talking head cliche you can come up with.  They're like Bulldog on Frasier... except Bulldog was actually funny sometimes.

As for college gameday, it's outlived its usefulness anyway. There's not much originality in it. They waste hours whoring themselves for what they deem the three top games when they could use that whole two hours to cover so much more of the nation. Just about the only reason to watch is the hope that someone comes up with a creative sign (e.g. Is this the Nickelback concert?) Herbstreit is a great analyst and Corso can be entertaining, but Fowler is such a smug ass.

Half the time Torg was goofball......sophmoric at best......but that was his schtick. I listened to the Common Man and Torg everyday. I listened to them because they made me laugh and occasionally brought up a good point. If you want Mike and Mike......listen to Mike and Mike. Both shows have there place and both shows are very good.

Was he an idiot to post that comment up on twitter.....absolutely.

Did it warrant dismissal? Not in my opinion.

Herbie choose to elevate this and push the issue on his Monday show and the Dispatch brass has been kissing his a$$ for years. The are especially sensitive to Herbie's feelings now that he is on the #1 National broadcast team.......they like having the fact that their station is the only station in America that he does a weekly show....albeit only during football season.

They should have suspended Torg for a week or two without pay.......

Let him Live!!!

Couldn't have said this better myself. I love how passionate his fan base is being. The #LetHimLive and #SaveTheTorg twitter hash tags are everywhere as well as the Save The Torg facebook page which has twice as many likes as 97.1's

Both of them PLUS Chris Spielman should have been fired in '08 when they spent a week referring to Boo Jackson as Boo Radley, in reference to the mentally challenged character from To Kill a Mockingbird.

They can both eat a dick.

Also......another factor for those of you into history.

Herbie and Hooley did the afternoon drive on The Fan prior to Herbie making it bg........Wasn't a bad show but it did not wow anyone.

Spielman came next but when Stephanie took a turn for the worse he opted to earlier in the day so he could help more with the kids.

Common Man and the Torg were moved to the afternoon drive to accomodate Spielman.........not for a minute did anyone realize the following this show would obtain........before Torg was fired this was the 2nd highest rated local show in the country.

Herbie had a case of the red ass.....

1. Because they eclipsed him

2. Because they ignored him.......not once was he asked to be on the show.....and it burned his ass.....

3. Because they mde fun of him several times.

He has just waited for a chance to burn either one of these guys.
