Hi, all — I’m editor of the Athens County Independent, an nonprofit digital newsroom here in Athens. I know there’s a lot of interest in coverage of OU sports as well as local high school sports, and I’d love to be able to provide it. However, we don’t currently have the budget to support a sportswriter (or even stringers). A member of Bobcat Attack suggested that I reach out to y’all to gauge interest in supporting sports coverage in the Independent, so here I am. Thanks in advance for your input!

I appreciate you reaching out. That’s awesome you’re even considering it. Though it appears to be cost prohibitive. I think our best shot is some sort of student run scenario in exchange for credits, small stipend.

I pay $2/month for The Athletic.

I think I might pay $10ish per month. $100 per year for better coverage depending on depth and frequency of course.

We already have the occasional reporter speaking up on YouTube during weekly pressers - would coverage go beyond that?
