At long last, the preliminaries are over and the real season begins.  Every game is TV and counts.

BG's last four (from earliest to most recent):  beat 'kron at 'kron 24-10, beat redhawk at home37-12, beat UMass at UMass 24-0, beat EMU at home 24-3.  Won't have played since 10/27 and have given up only 25 points in their last four.

We can win this one.  We must.   Cannot have one of those deals in which the D takes a while to warm up, giving up points early and then stiffening.  Must engage from the gitgo.

BEAT BG.

I am not sure how the conference office creates such a blunder in scheduling for allowing BGSucks 10 days in between games.  Most unfair to any team opposing them.  It happens to be Ohio.

Someone at the MAC office really wanted them to have a shot...They get another 10 day rest after their game against Ohio.

No matter...RELENTLESS!

I don't like bye weeks, and question whether they help or hurt a team. Didn't we have a bye week before Miami?

And it helped only one team.

Forgetting about how betting may move the line, what's a reasonably objective take on what will be the line for the BG game?

With the weight of the home field advantage I'm thinking OHIO favored by 5 to 6pts.

I would guess it will be pretty close to flat. One team or the other will probably be favored by 1 point, and if I had to guess, I'd say BG will be favored due to the extra rest.

But they play Kent at home after playing us, so I'm not going to complain.

Can't see it as a pick-em game to open. I would say at worst we'll be 3.5 favorites. BG's handled the lower MAC but they got hammered pretty good by the Rockets. Just don't see the bookies, again with our home field edge, not making us a slight favorite. I don't see the bye week as a big factor on the spread.

I think most sports books use a system like the Sagarins as a baseline and then tweak from there. Sagarin would say this is basically a pick 'em. BG's predictor is about 3.8 points higher than Ohio's but the home field advantage of 3.5 cancels that out.

Yes, Ohio has the home field, but BG has the advantage of more rest. I'm not really concerned about the spread anyway - just about the final score.

I think that Ohio will be 3 or 3.5 point favorites.

I would say 3 to 3.5 sounds about right, though would not be surprised by 6.

I also strongly think turnout and noise could be a crucial difference maker here. Students and fans need to bring it, not just the team. They will feed off this, and they need it, deserve it.

This is the biggest game in Peden all season. No excuses - from team, students, or fans. No "early voting". No "voting by email/internet/TV". Gotta show up in person game day and physically/vocally/lOUdly give your support.......

Keys to the rest of the season:  senior leadership, 3rd down effectiveness (offense and defense), and miami sucks.

See--we're already 1/3 of the way there!
