does this win get us any closer to re-cracking the top 25?????  Now don't think I am crazy here...I know a win vs a down EMU team is not much to brag about but this can't be the same result as our sloppy win vs UMass where we actually lost votes.....so I guess the better question is...do we gain votes with this win since we were at least able to pull away in the 3rd and 4th?

And I know that this win alone won't get us where we need to be.....but I guess what I am asking is, with all this national exposure we just had...was that just a "flavor of the month" type thing and now that November is here and we have 1 loss we are no longer the $5 subway special....or with a win out scenario where we beat bgsucks, balls tech, and then Kent read etc etc...are we back to 23ish in the nation again.....

I hope so....

And for those of you "just win the MAC" types...I get it....but we had something going here and I may be stubborn, but part of me refuses to let that national recognition go......

I can't wait to win the MAC....but now that this team has shown what its capable of....I think doing so without a top 25 ranking is a little let down......

If we win out we will be ranked. It's that simple.

Really?

I don't see any way the regular season ends with a ranking. If we go to Detroit, then win over a possibly ranked western division champ, then maybe.

I couldn't believe there were coaches and AP voters that gave votes this week.

There's almost no doubt the Western Div Champ will be ranked and there's a very good possibility Kent will be by the time we play them as well (assuming neither loses a game along the way of course).

The MAC is the 5th ranked conference and it's champion will have a single mark in the loss column...

If we win out I think we are ranked.  Kent and the west champ would be quality wins.

I don't think we win out though...

So you are pulling the "Captain Obvious" card.....

I understand that in usual logic a win equals more attention and votes but as OUr win against UMass showed us, you can actually lose votes by winning ugly against an ugly team....and Eastern was and is an ugly team.

We won big..and that's great, but I just hope we didn't miss out on OUr football teams  "One shining moment" (can't wait for bball to start)

A chance to make some waves on a national scale.

Kent showed today that they are not the best...remember what Kentucky did to them.  BG does not look unstoppable...so I say we win out and get revenge in the MACC.  Confidence Mr. Optimist.  GO OHIO!

I would say if we are 11-1 going into the MACC game we will be ranked.
Right now I am mainly concerned about beating BG.

we get closer to the top 25 this week as it levels out. Last week we were punished for losing and received much fewer votes than our fellow 1 loss conference mates. But now that we have a win to show the loss was not the beginning of a trend, and that win was on prime time and had recaps online with titles using words like "routs" and "crushes" I say we will level out and be much closer to the other 3.

Toledo was off, Kent looked vulnerable, and NIU showed again it like to run up the score on bad teams, but still lacks a signature win, so not sure where we'll fit but it should be close.

Next week Ohio and Toledo play 6-3 division foes on the Duece, Kent is at unpredictable Miami on saturday, and NIU is off. If Peden looks better on wednesday than the Glassbowl does on tuesday and we manage a win I think we can make an even bigger jump.

When our self-proclaimed The Optimist is pessimistic it makes me really, really worry.  This is not good for Ohio karma.  Please reconsider, TO, and tell us how we can still make that BCS bowl game.  That's the MO we have come to know and love!

Don't look now, but the first 5 of 60 AP voters who've made their ballots public via Twitter all have Ohio ranked somewhere between 22-25.

Unbelievable. Could we be ranked again this quickly?!

Boise lost too... Looking like LA Tech has a shot to be BCS bound over the B1G...  If ALL the MAC teams we've been talking about get ranked, and one remains a 1 lose team, things could get interesting.

If multiple, or all 4 of our magic MAC gets ranked, color me intrigued.

AP:
http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

#23 Toledo
#26 NIU
#27 Kent State
#32 OHIO

Coaches:

#25 Toledo
#26 NIU
#32 OHIO
#33 Kent State

Interesting that the Coaches still have Boise at #24

No, but 1 or 2 MAC teams  will be. Just win the next game every week and we will be ranked at the end of the regular season, but I predicted 3-3 in the last 6 games and still do. The team made some steps towards getting better last week so I just hope they continue more of the same.

only 3 one-loss teams in the country not in the top 25 of the ap or coaches poll and they are all from the same conference.

can you guess which conference? I'll give you a hint- its the conference ranked #5 by cbssports.com, has 6 bowl eligible teams (2nd only to the SEC), and has 4 one-loss teams overall (most in FBS).

A pair of "could bes":

NIU and Toledo could both be ranked when they play next week.

Ohio and Kent could both be ranked when they play on the 23rd.

And a "should be":

Both teams in the MACC game should be ranked.
