Because that's what we did the whole first half except for the first drive.
As a business owner or manager, I don't give a rip about what your business is. But if you don't approach it with vigor, organization and confidence, then I am going to change something. (If you have the same business problem over and over, that's not good. If you have the same thinking problem over and over again, you have a problem that is going to cost someone something, is going to get addressed)..
So, as many have mentioned: our all year long punting game and the five guys who all probably could have blocked our first kick tonight. I turned to those around me right as our 2nd punt was coming and said 'here comes a block.' Gee, that really makes me a genius for recognizing the obvious.
Hey, here's an EMU favorite.
How about faking to the running back before throwing a pass. Y'know, trying to freeze the defense. Or qb could pump fake.
We lost today not because of physical play (their fabulous punter vs our horrid punting wasn't conclusive). We lost because of
an incredibly timid, unthinking mental approach.
Watch the 2nd quarter. First play is BG at about our 11. Running back carries 5-6 of our guys in for the last 7 yards followed by jr high punting an total disarray on offense. The only word for the jr high ball that we played in the 2nd quarter--appeared totally intimidated, afraid to git after it and attack BG's defense-- is APPALLING.
Our first drive in 2nd we got a little more uptempo going. A bit. People around me were laughing at me for yelling 'run a play, any play, just run it and get up and run another, it doesn't matter what we run. just get up and attack.'
Hey, how about that completion near the sideline at BG's 20 with 3:09 (3:17?) to go and we do the 'hey sideline, we're looking at you' and don't snap if until about 2:53.
