Beau clearly is the better RB to fit our system. He's quicker and makes one cut and runs people over. He has 97 yards rushing and is sitting on the sideline for these past 2 series! Hello coach anyone there!!! Did you not realize he led you to the only 2 TDs we have! Ever since Boykin got healthy it makes sense to spell Beau but to take your main leading rusher out of the game for a whole series or 2 at a time when he's hot makes no sense at all. The offense basically has struggled since Boykin returned and this is why IMO

There is no explanation for this two back system. It hasn't worked the past three games. Can someone explain this to me?

When you gift wrap 19 points to your opponent does it really matter?

This offense used to score 19 points in their sleep, now they can barely complete a pass that isn't a screen.

BBall, I agree that BB should be in there 90% of the time.  But, starting wit the Miami game the QB has not played up to the hype.  Not sure if it is the line or now the lack of quality receivers but the Offense seems completely out of sync.

Do we really need to hope Boykin gets hurt again so that they go back to sticking Beau back there and giving him 25-35 carries/game again?

Penn State 31 -109 (Boykin 3-9)
NM State 27-168 (DNP)
Marshall 30-102 (8-45)
Norfolk St. 25-109 (DNP)
UMass 43-269 (DNP)
Buffalo 25-86 (6-64)
Akron 17-108 (19-96)
Miami 16-74 (10-74)
EMU 11-72 (18-128)
BG 18-97 (10-29)

Frank, those times were when BB22 was in the game. Feed him.

In the games where both played Boykin had a higher yards per carry than BB. Marshall, Buffalo, Miami and EMU. Both bring talent to the field. I like BOTH.

Boykin does fine in the power running game.  This one has me baffled too, but there are far worse issues than this.

The network graphic showed that over the prior three game Mr. Boykin had been more productive than Beau,  he has earned his snaps. JMHO.

Tough to go thru a whole 12 game season running the ball 30 times a game nowadays.  I agree, we have much bigger problems than this.

If you watched that game and thought that the problem was who was at running back, then you missed a good game.

To me the issue was not who is better Beau or Boykin, it was with the fact that the offense on the previous series had functioned well and Beau had the "hot hand" at that moment.  Therefore, why walk away from what is working and go with Boykin?  In other words, if it is not broken, do not change it.  Run the same system until BGSU stops it.

Also, Monroe I agree with your other thread that this team lacks swagger or an identity.  We basically played with no passion on Senior Night in front of a national tv audience with everything on the line.  If that is not motivation enough, I do not know what is.

"Hot hand" quote from Mr. Bentley. Sorry, I will trust coach Solich on use of his backs.  Doubt there is anyone in the country better at coaching backs.  If he feels Boykin has earned his snaps far be it from me to question it.  Now, I get it, fans get to arm chair coach. It is what most do.  Continue.

We need to get the line of scrimmage, set and snap it.   Boom--here it comes, see if you can stop it!

When we've done that, no one has.

None of this hesitancy, looking to the sideline, scratching the head--all that took our mojo, energy, confidence away.  BG has a good defense.  But it ain't that good.

The good news is that we get it together quick.  A lack of talent cannot be fixed overnight.  Fixing our mental mojo side can be done over a weekend.  'Cats will beat Ballie.

We can't worry about every play being perfect.  Run it, if it doesn't work, move to the next one.  When we're on, enough of our stuff works that we score plenty enough.

Up tempo is a 2-edged sword. It wears down the other team, but also you (both your offense and defense). Whichever team is the best conditioned benefits the most. Whichever team has the most depth benefits the most. Whichever team is the least tired benefits the most.

Against BG, Ohio was the one with the short week. They were the one with the tired legs. They were the one with the depth issues caused by so many injuries. Up tempo benefited BG far more than it benefited Ohio.

L.C.: Maybe.  But these are 20-23 year old men who must get some excitement energy up for the game.  Then, have you had a chance to watch the game.  Did you see our procedure for the critical 2nd quarter, most of the first quarter and more than shoulda been for the rest of the game:  get to line of scrimmage, semi-set, look to sidelines, look to sidelines, look to sidelines, then run some good plays, some not so good.

No disrespect meant because I believe that you know the following (you are a business owner!)  Anyone can see 'what' is happening.  But it's really possible to get a sense of why, of the intangibles.  I'm sure that everyone could feel the discomfort which our punting squad was going through.  (Wasn't one snap missed because eyes were more on the rush than the snap?)  Likewise, the indecisiveness of our offense was palpable.

It was as if we had soooooooo much respect for BG's defense that we just weren't sure what to do.  Or maybe there waw disagreement on what play(s) to run.

Whatever it was, that was not OHIO out there for much of the game on offense.  That sure looked like not quite Ohio.  Injuries are always going to hurt a team.  Playing with firm determination and gusto should obtain anyways.

I'm not going to comment about the punting, which needs some serious work. My primary comment was that this game fit the normal formula, where one team (Ohio) was fine for the entire first quarter, and part of the second, but had tired legs by the end of the second quarter. They were fine after a rest of halftime, but ran out of gas again midway in the third. It was the same recipe as the Penn State and EMU games, except that it was Ohio on the receiving end. Had both teams been equally rested, I think the game would have looked very different, and I don't think BG would have totally won both lines of scrimmage the way they did. Running plays faster would not have helped in this game.

If fatigue is the problem with the line play, I'll be very glad. Fatigue is a relatively easy fix.

Have we ever had this percentage of players lost for the year to injury? I have to wonder what in the world is going on in Athens. How are we losing this many players? It seems as though we have had very bad luck with injuries over the past 2 or 3 seasons. Is that accurate, or just my imagination?

This is the worst ever, I'm sure, but 2005 and 2008 were also bad, going from memory. I don't think last year was particularly bad, though a few important players were lost. What made 2005 so bad was the lack of depth, and that 3 of five offensive starters were lost for the season in one 5 minute time period.
