It has been amazing to see so many players hurt this year. What are at now? 15 players lost for the season? That's almost an entire team. Of the 15, I think 9 were starters, so that's about half a team. If there is a bright spot, it is that a lot of young players are getting a lot of snaps, and that will mean more and better depth down the road, but it still sucks.

There were 11 on the Ball State game thread and if you add Neal and Carl that's 13 total. Many don't seem to be starters.

Whatever the totals, that's a lot of bodies.

Here's a position by position analysis of who played:
OL - Prior, Lechner, Allen, Herman, McGrath, Carlotta, McQueen - pretty normal, except Lechner started for Carlotta. Out with injury is Sam Johnson and Matt Pritchard.
TE - Knight, Hill, injured is Thompson, Roback and true Freshman Tanner
QB - Tettleton, Vick
RB - Blankenship, Patterson, Hammond, missing Boykin
WR - Futrell, Waters, Foster started, plus Bussey, Cochran, Clark, and also played walkons Sawyer and Ian Dixon. Missing at WR are Landon Smith, Sebastian Smith, and Mario Dovell,

DT - Jones, Huynh, Crutcher, Hastings, Purdum, and Tony Davis played, but Jones and Huynh are injured, now
DE - Hastings and Crutcher started, but now will play DT, I presume. That leaves Kendric Smith, Nic Barber, and Ty Branz at DE, with Tremayne Scott out.
MLB - Moore, Russell, Edmond
WLB - Woseley, Jovan Johnson. Blake Jones did not play.
SLB - Lewis, Grady, Atwell
CB - Fisher, Wells, Bass, Leftwich, Denton, Terpin, Fay, out is Carrie and Shaw.
S - Moore, Kristoff, Ingol, Carpenter. Out is Hughes

The real question is how healthy some of those are that are playing, For example, Moore at Safety just doesn't have his old speed, so I'm guessing that his ankle is still a problem.

The two I added to Ted's list were John Tanner and Tremayne Scott. Scott might be back, but it's taken this long, it may be after the season. Then you can add all the other injuries, to guys like Roback, Carlotta, Moore, etc. It almost would be easier to list the positions where the starter is still playing.  On defense the only starters left are the linebackers.

Edit - Another observation I make is that conditioning has become a real issue since the injuries started cropping up. Through the first 6 games, Ohio was always the stronger team in the 2d and 4th quarters. Ohio lost that time period to Akron, BG, and Ball State, and it was even against Miami. Three of those four they lost. What I don't know is, are the backups not as well conditioned as the starters were? Or, is that, because of all the injuries, there isn't a good rotation, and everyone is playing longer stretches?

I would guess that it is partially people playing longer stretches, or the stretches stayed the same but became more frequent. I think the other part might be that, even if the backups/replacements are as well conditioned, the difference in in skill level/ability between the starters and the backups became more apparent as fatigue set in in the 2nd and 4th quarters of those games.
