As much as I hate one of the teams involved it came too me that the state of Ohio has a good chance of winning   three national championships this year in college football. FBS,D2, and D3. Does anyone know if this has ever been accomplished before? I am almost sure it certainly hasn't happened in Ohio since the last time A&M was given the championship the Machine managed to lose the championship game that same year.

Ohio has no chance of an FBS title. And don't give me the AP thing. Won't happen.

well I hope you are right, I don't want to see them get it either, but it is a possibility. Not as good a chance as Ashland and certainly not like the machine's chances but stranger things have happened.

Hey JSF, I've got something for you. It's called "the AP thing"

I think they were close about five years ago or so; Ohio State, Youngstown(?) and Mount Union.  I think the Crew also won the MLS title that year.  (OT)

Even though O$U might finish first in the AP poll if ND loses at some point, a "national title" without a conference title and a bowl victory is pretty meaningless.  If they do go undefeated, Gene Smith should resign for making maybe the biggest blunder in college sports history -- not taking the gravity of the situation serious enough to self-impose a bowl ban last season.  Sitting at home during bowl season without his team having the opportunity to play for national glory should make him choke on his Christmas goose.

Absolutely will not happen.  First, you don't finish #1 when on probation for cheating.  Second, the odds are very high that either ND will go undefeated (very unlikely, but a possibility) and they would finish above OSU, or (most likely as we sit today) that an SEC team (Ala or GA) will win the national championship as a 1 loss SEC team.  In either case, AP voters will not reward an OSU team that avoids the Big 10 Championship game AND a bowl game against a highly ranked team.  Simply will not happen.

I agree with CC Cat. There is no way that AP voters will vote OSU number one at the end of the year even if they go undefeated. Either ND or whatever 1-loss SEC school will end up number 1 in the AP poll in my opinion.

Big deal they are 11-0 with a subpar team and a proven coach. We are peeing down our leg with a proven coach.

well so much for that idea anyway. I like a few others returning home from kent stopped off too watch ashland today and that is one championship that won't be won a team from ohio. That West Texas team had a couple of receivers we could have used during the year.
