I'm already hearing it.  Chatter is all over the place, but it sounds like this is hardly the end of it.  SEC apparently knew the deal was coming and has been reaching out to a few schools.  Sounds like the Big Ten wants Georgia Tech and Virginia as well . . .

Commence BA talk about going to the Big East in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

There isn't much left of the old Big East. With Rutgers to the Big Ten, and U.Conn going to the ACC to replace Maryland, and with the Big East not being an AQ conferernce, anymore, anyway, how about going the other way? Invite Cincy, Pitt, Syracuse, and Louisville to join a stable conference with a reasonable travel budget, the MAC.

Pretty sure Pitt and Syracuse are also headed to the ACC, but I can see Cincy and Louisville at least thinking about us...

Perhaps, as the BE falls apart as C-USA is already doing, it'll be time for Jim Schaus and Dr. McDavis to consider forming a new conference with the likes of Marshall, ECU, Memphis, Toledo, NIU, Bowling Green, UL and UC.  I don't see UC and UL interested in the present MAC, but a new conference might be a different matter.  There are rumors, however, that UL and UC at going to the B12.

I'd have more interest in Akron sticking around than BG.

My friends who are RU fans are pretty evenly split.

The ones in favor of it think it will be beneficial to be in a more prsstigious conference.And that they will get more money being in the Big 10.

The ones who are opposed don't see it improving recruiting much, if at all, and think RU will just be a doormat in football and basketball.

I think the big split is coming.  there will probably be 70-80 schools in the Super Conference Division.  I believe UL and UC will end up "in the big time".  I don't see any MAC teams reaching that promised land.  We, along with CUSA, Sun Belt and WAC/MTN types can go down a division or form a new 'we almost made it" division.

I sure would.  As far as football goes, the Big East after Rutgers leaves will be no better than the MAC.  I'm not sure the Big East will exist in football in a couple of years.

I was on here tooting the Big East horn earlier this season, but now that Rutgers will be gone, and UCONN on it's way out too, there's no way we should jump into that mess.  

This definitely doesn't mean we should sit around waiting for the world to pass us by, however.  Time to get together with the other MAC schools and figure out how to stay relevant in conference realignment this time around.

I would love to see how Maryland sells this to the students and alumni.

"Yeah, we cut 7 sports last year b/c we couldn't afford them, and now we are going to pay the ACC $50 MILLION for the privilege to leave and get creamed year-in and year-out in the B1G-14..."

Yes.  The Big East is done.  UC is doomed.  Temple isn't in great shape either...

FoxSports.com is reporting that Maryland has accepted the Big Ten offer and will be joining the conference. Let the Big East poaching begin in earnest.

Guess they will have to be redoing that East-West division thing in the Big East. Maybe Temple will get slotted in the East Division after-all.

So, college football in 5 years:
 
B1G: Maryland, Rutgers, GaTech, and UVa (gets to 16)
SEC: VaTech and ???? (Clemson? NC State? FSU?) (gets to 16)
PAC-X: Maybe no additions? (stays at 12) Or maybe Texas, Okie, Okie State, and ????? (BYU?) (gets to 16)
Big 12: Depends on what the PAC-X does, but maybe Louisville, Cincy, Boise, or Air Force (gets to 14)
ACC: Replace Maryland, GaTech, UVa, VaTech and maybe one other with UConn and idon'tknowthisishardmyheadhurts

Big East, MAC, MtnWest, CUSA, Sunbelt: One giant super conference (or maybe 2 with a "championship game") fighting for the last BCS spot.

News Flash-UL and UC will end up in something better than the MAC.  They are both committed to being big time (especially with Bball).  Unfortunately, nobody in the MAC has the resources, ability, or desire to be in that 70-80.  We'll fight for the left over scraps.

Maybe Boise and the rest will start having second thoughts.  No prestige whatsoever with the Big Least now.  They'll be moving into a conference that has only two teams of the remaining five with winning records and only one ranked team.  The MAC has a better resume than that.  The Big Tedozen is doing the smart thing bringing in multiple teams from the same region.  I'm sure Temps and UCF were, and UMass is, feeling a bit isolated from the rest of the MAC, not only from being football-only but also geographically.

Rutgers will be announcing on Tuesday that it too has accepted the Big10 offer. UConn is the obvious choice to replace Maryland in the ACC. Rick Pitino is probably ferverishly working the phones for somebody, anybody to take Louisville NOW.

Where will UC end up? IMO, they are not a Big 12, ACC or Big 10 level program.

Wake Forest and Minnesota aren't those level of programs.  UC will not have a problem finding a new home.  Either will Louisville.
