Congratulations to both schools for a wonderful season. Also, to Toledo, Ball State and OHIO. The MAC is solid in football, basketball and many other sports. Northern rejoined the MAC and has proven to be the class of the MAC in football the past couple of years. I love going to Dekalb when we play them in Illinois (I live in Milwaukee). Their fans are always welcoming and friendly. Hats off to Northern. I was hoping Kent State would win so the MAC would get a big paycheck, but the best team won. Let's hope the MAC does well in bowl games again this year. And . . . . Go Bobcats in basketball!

I also congratulate Northern Illinois and Kent State on a great MAC Title Game. The MAC has had a banner year and it showed last night in the effort those two teams gave. I want the bowl selection committees to think about what the MAC has done this year, including Ohio, and snatch up MAC teams. Ohio, an 8-4 MAC school) is more deserving of going to a bowl than some of those Sun Belt teams or teams from a WAC that has two transitional teams from FCS.. I hope it doesn't come down to contractual obligations that keeps us out of bowls. Pittsburgh and UConn, lay an egg!

Kent's loss may go down as the most expensive loss in MAC history -- $8M in the coffers for the MAC very likely had they won.

Also, the coach of the year designation should be revoked for calling a TE reverse sweep on 3rd and 1 in crunch time.

Ditto-congratulations to both teams-they played a great game and did the MAC proud.  I hope they and all the MAC teams that are fortunate enough to go to bowl games win.

Oh what could have been for Kent State! At first I found myself jealous of KSU as I wanted Ohio to be the MAC team to somehow be in a BCS bowl but then I found myself routing for them as the game went on.  With Stanford's win against UCLA, Kent's chances of getting to a BCS bowl were almost certain.  This was the one year that all the stars were aligned for a MAC team to make it to a BCS bowl.  I know I shouldn't, but I feel for Kent and what might have been; they may never be so close again.

P.S.  Assuming Elton Alexander of the Plain Dealer's correct, while KSU could have received an $8 million pay day playing in a BCS bowl, first they would have had to pony up or guarantee $2.4 million for ticket sales and another $500,000 for a one week required hotel stay.  Like Alexander said, you have to spend money to make money.

Good point Mark. I didn't read Elton yet, but if that is the case, I would think (hope) that the MAC would step in to help KSU get to those numbers in order to get to the payout. I think there would be some fans at other MAC schools that might want to attend the Orange Bowl (especially if the MAC subsidizes tix) to root on another MAC brethren.

Unless that team is Miami.

I would gladly root for Miami in the Orange Bowl, or any bowl for that matter. While we have our bitter battles in conference play, at the end of the day we are all a family of the Mid-American Conference. And with that, we are all fighting the uphill battle against the main stream media who says we don't belong with the big boys. Kent State getting a bid to the Orange Bowl and performing well against a major conference champion would go a long way paving the road for any MAC schools getting that oppurtunity in the future.
