I think the ACC has a good shot at getting a waiver to keep  Ga Tech on the priority list no matter what happens in the championship game.  If MiamiF hadn't self-imposed the ban, they would've gone to the ACC championship with a 7-5 record and would've gone to a bowl, win or lose.  Ga Tech would've been 6-6 and would've gone to a bowl.  I don't think the NCAA would penalize Ga Tech simply because MiamiF took cyanide for this season.

This is a good point. If thats the case then we are done. See you next year.

The NCAA has already made a contingency for teams like Georgia Tech, so they won't issue a waiver. Here's the order of teams that can be bowl eligible if there aren't 70 teams available (these will NOT come into play now):

1. 6-6 teams with wins vs. FCS teams that lack the full number of scholarships
2. 6-6 teams with 2 FCS wins
3. 6-7 teams with a loss in a conference championship game
4. 6-7 teams with a 13 game regular season schedule (really just Hawaii)
5. Reclassifying teams (UTSA, etc.) with a 6-6 record
6. 5-7 teams with a top 5 APR rating

So, we're safe with respect to Georgia Tech. Check out the full article here: http://content.usatoday.com/communities/campusrivalry/post/2012/08/ncaa-board-ruling-helps-deepen-pool-of-bowl-qualifiers/1#.ULGce4bdMZE

According to this, under new NCAA rules (not last year's rules that let UCLA in), GT would NOT get a waiver if they lose to FSU.  (scroll to the very bottom of the page)

I think, though, that was meant for situations where the team playing in the championship game was 6-6 overall AND got to the championship game on its own, like UCLA did last year.  MiamiF would've gone because it has the tiebreaker on GT.  Plus the fact that MiamiF's self-imposed ban happened so late in the season may be a factor.

The way we ended the season does anybody really want any part of an SEC team?

Source tells  that Ohio-Ole Miss in BBVA Compass Bowl a strong possibility and a deal may be close to done.

With all due respect to Mr. Corrigan at WATH, a "source" tells him that a deal is about to be done for the Compass...and that's supposed to be credible?

I still think our best shot - and what would be much better than Birmingham - is the Military Bowl, as ESPN predicts. We could actually get some fans there, AND there's a bunch of Bobcat alums crawling around the District.

Also have to question Corrigan's tweets below, and basically him slamming the quality of the top 1 or 2 teams in the MAC not being BCS worthy.   This elitism is not Bobcat-worthy.  Yes, Kent DOES deserve a BCS bowl if they finish high enough.  He mentions the second game of the year at Kentucky (Kent loss), but doesn't mention that Kent handled Rutgers a couple weeks back when Rutgers was undefeated and ranked #15.

Can you imagine NIU or Kent in a BCS bowl? Can you imagine how quickly that would be over?

Possibly. Neither deserve it though. Just taking advantage of weak year in NCAA FB.

Kent State still has to beat NIU, which I doubt happens, but it is possible for a BCS bowl. Do they deserve it? Hell no.

You guys realize that Corrigan is a junior in the J-school, right? He's still got some learning to do, and probably wanted to be the first to break the story. Granted, I have no idea what he does for WATH, or what level of access his position there grants him, but I wouldn't think he'd be in contact with anyone with any kind of decision making power at the bowls.

I knew it sounded fishy from the beginning. 1) because of who reported it and the lack of an identifiable source and 2) because a quick look at the standings and bowl tie-ins shows that the Compass Bowl shouldn't have "a deal may be close to done" with us given that the Big East still has an opportunity to fill their commitment to the bowl.

As for his other tweets, they are just ignorant towards the rest of the conference. An 11-1 MAC team who went undefeated in conference play absolutely deserves a BCS bid. Moreso than Boise State this season. You match Kent or NIU up against the Big East Champ, and I bet the MAC team is favored. It definitely wouldn't be over quickly.

I had mixed feelings about this report. One one hand, it would've been nice to know right now that we've secured a bowl without having to go through a nervous weekend of scoreboard watching. On the negative, Ole Miss might not be the best match up for us right now. It'll be an anxious Saturday.

Indeed.  Especially considering the potential BE Champ in Rutgers was once already taken to the woodshed by a team that may only finish second in the MAC.

SI.com currently lists the BGSUcks vs. Ole Miss in the Compass Bowl with Ohio vs. Western Kentucky in the Military Bowl. I would think these would be more likely than Ohio in the Compass bowl. For us to even get to a bowl, we have alot of weak other conferences to thank.

Ohio was close to a deal with the BBVA Compass Bowl last week, but then Pitt became unexpectedly bowl eligible.

Looks like he's backing off of his initial tweet. How did Pitt become unexpectedly bowl eligible? They beat an awful 3-8 USF team that just fired Skip Holtz.

Maybe the refs didn't get the Big Least conf. memo that the fix was in for USF since Pitt's abandoning the sinking ship.

Yeah....really.

Watched both games......well all of UConn's loss since it looked the Bearcats had their boots on the throat....just eased the pressure way too much.

Now the Pitt game......WTF.....I didn't watch it all since after a few minutes I could tell that USF was one of the worst teams I had watched all year.  How is that possible?  Florida is THE football recruiting place on the planet and you have a last name of Holtz?  As much as I like Lou his son should have been and was fired.....how did he succeed at ECU?

Maybe he rose beyond his level of incompetency.
