I just googled quickly, and it seems like the top paid players in the CFL still make below 100k. So that practice squad money's likely still an upgrade. The highest paid guy I saw (admittedly I didn't look all that hard) was t $175k Canadian. That's like ~130k US.
But still a bummer for Rourke. To go out and perform like he did in pre-season and not maintain an active roster spot is tough, though maybe Jacksonville was clear about this as the plan all along.
Highest paid CFL players are pretty much the guys you'd expect:
Zach Collaros Winnipeg $550,000
Cody Fajardo Saskatchewan $467,000
Jeremiah Masoli Ottawa $432,000
Bo Levi Mitchell Calgary $425,000
To which this would be diminished with the exchange rate but I still think he would have beaten rookie practice squad money. And I think he'd become easily the most popular player in Canada because he's Canadian. He would have had some endorsement money coming his way if he has stayed. Probably not millions like star NFL QB's but compared to $207000 I think it would help make a comparable dent.
