Hmmm...If MAC presidents and ADs were thinking creatively and big, they just might begin campaigning systematically and aggressively - read publicly - with the AQ conferences to replace the Big East with the MAC.
Campaign platform to begin with MAC vs Big East in 2012:
WMU over UConn
Ball State over South Florida
Toledo over Cincy
Kent State over Rutgers
Then cite the MAC's 2011 bowl record: 4-1.
Then cite the MAC's more entertaining brand of football.
Then cite its continuing willingness to schedule to accommodate ESPN.
And keep hammering on the platform, right on through till next season.
This is all nice, but the only thing that TV stations care is how many people watch us. While we may have an entertaining brand of football, we still don't draw the numbers.
Ok, Ohio might be able to bring in the numbers, but we still got teams like Ball State, Kent, EMU, Akron, BG, and UMASS that still draw absolutely tiny numbers. I dont' see us getting more money than the Big East in their new TV deal.
