Well, I was at the Kent game and despite the recent poor play, I'm going to Shreveport. The fumble and the "pic six" killed us, otherwise we were in it. Yea, I know, "coulda, woulda, shoulda..."

I graduated in the '70's and never considered OU athletic programs worthy of anyone's attention. Since Frank came on board, my attitudue has changed. My son has become a huge OU fan and I've caught his infection. Personally, I like the fact that the Ohio college I attended and love is "in the mix" during bowl season. I kind of like the fact that all the Ohio State fans (who we know didn't really go to Ohio State) are sitting home while the real Ohio is "in the mix". My wife and I are using it as an opportunity to let my son see the South and experiencce Louisville, Nashville, Memphis and Little Rock on the way down, and then see Jackson, Tuscalusa and Brimingham on the way back. We're going low budget, but we're going. Life is short, so I suggest everyone get on board and go to this game. Win or lose, it will be a great experience. I'm all "in" and looking for updates for those who do this on a regular basis. Go Ohio!

+1,000. Couldn't have said it any better.

If you're able to attend, everyone should try to make it down. This team, this school, our seniors...all need OUr support.

I was told that we sold something like 50 tickets to Idaho last year. That is an utter embarrassment. Man up and support the program. Can't find a way to get there? Help the cause and buy a few of the "tickets for kids" to donate.

We need everyone "all in" for bowl season...how are YOU supporting the team?

Ordered my game tickets today. Also ordered "Bobcat Bash" pre-game tickets. I figure we're going to be there anyway so why not go. I booked a room at the TownePlace Suites at $109 per night. I couldn't get an answer at the Hilton and their site shows they are all booked up. Not sure if the OU block is gone. I don't mind staying on the Bossier City side of the river since the La. boardwalk is over there and that's where the parade the night before is happening. TownePlace Suites looks to be about a 5 minute ride to the boardwalk. Hopefully, we'll bring a crowd.

Called today and learned that the Hilton is booked. They put up a full list of hotels offering discounts today:

Pretty good range of prices, whether you're looking for mid-range hotels or just the cheapest available. Can't use price as an excuse for not going...at least when it comes to hotels!

I only looked at a few but these save about $6 a night on average over published internet rates.  I guess it is a discount though.

I'm having trouble finding anyone to go with me, even from as close as Houston.

Flights into DFW have fallen into the reasonable range.  I just might be tempted.

Maybe one of OUr Monroe friends can straighten this one out.....Bossier City......their band was at a Virginia Beach band festival when I was a senior drummer in ours (we were 1 of 2 Ohio bands-Steubenville Big Red the other-our director knew someone-haha)... but I swear it was pronounced with a long O rhyming with Beau....OUr play by play guy is pronouncing it like a u....rhyming with booze.

Straighten me out.

You are correct. It is pronounced With an O as in beau. Bozure is the best way phonetically I can spell it.

I was able to get 2 tickets into Jackson, MS for 289 a piece flying in on the night of the 27th. I'm planning to stay the night at an Airport hotel for like 25 dollars or so and drive 3 hours the next day before the game. I'm flying back on the 2nd after making a side trip into New Orleans every other Airport wanted at least 600 dollars (Shreveport, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Houston) and I have only 600 left in free airline miles so I needed 300 or under per ticket.

I'm staying in the Casino since my gf who worked in Reno likes them as they usually have good restaurants. They are pricey but its not like we are talking Manhattan prices here. You can easily find a motel for 50 dollars around Shreveport but it takes one to look and do research.

I just wanted to weigh in with my travel experience.

First off, the folks at the Independence Bowl, and the locals in the Shreveport/Bossier City area, were awesome. Ohio fans were really made to feel welcome and we were all treated great!

We drove roughly 1,000 miles from Cleveland. We saw about 30 cars spun out on the roads between Cleveland and Nashville due to the storm. We kept it slow and steady. We spent a night in Memphis, which was great. Drove by Graceland, Sun Studios, Stax Studios and went to the exhibit at the Lorraine Motel where MLK was killed. Central BBQ and Beale Street as well. Memphis was great. Arkansas sucked. Horrible roads and travel services. It was like a 3rd world country. Sorry Arkansas, no love for you. I'm going through Mississippi and Alabama to avoid Arkansas on the way home. Thats how bad Arkansas was.

We stayed in Bossier City on the east side of the Red River across from Shreveport. The Louisiana Boardwalk is on the Bossier City side of the river and is a pretty nice mall/food/shopping area. The big Bass Pro Shop was unreal. We avoided the chains and ate local. One great spot was the Southfield Grill on Benton in Bossier City. Excellent Southern food.

The tailgating at the game was great. This one local made jambalaya (outstanding) and offered it to OU fans. A local vendor was selling incredible blackened bacon and shrimp and stuffed peppers. Incredible good taste!

The stadium is in a rough part of town, but the police were great and so were the locals in the neighborhood. Everyone was great. We took a bus for $5 round trip from the mall by our hotel to the game and back. That was awesome.

I've got a long ride ahead of me back to Cleveland, but I really hope OHIO gets invited to the Independence Bowl next year. If you didn't make it down, you really missed a great experience. Go Bobcats!
