I want to know how Tim Albin got so smart in just a few weeks.  Did Frank hire a special tutor for him?  Maybe the guys up the the Edison Biotechnology Research Center on The Ridges gave him a brain transplant!

Well where did the play calling come from, because they didn't try to stretch the field with Futrell down the stretch.

Well maybe the coaches-can-do-no-wrong crowd should have calmed down a bit after a great win. Because it was impressive, but it was also missing for two months.

Some seem to be misinterpreting.  This is SARCASM.  I'm making fun of the fire the coaches crowd.

I was hoping you could explain where the attempts to stretch the field have been. Because that was excellent, but we didn't see much of that for the last five games.

some random facts about wins and losses, not making any specific point.-

- Ohio's 19 wins in the last 2 seasons equals the total number of wins by the Bobcats in 11 seasons from 1985-1995.

- The Bobcats have won 9 or more games 4 times under Solich.
- Solich was fired after 9 wins in a season at Nebraska, Cleve Bryant was fired after 9 wins in 5 seasons, Tom Lichtenberg was fired after 8 wins in 5 seasons.

- Bobcats won 23 games in the first 4 years under Solich. They've won 36 games in the next 4.
- With 3 more wins Solich will match the win total of the 20 seasons prior to his arrival in Athens.

My guess is that TT had more serious rib injuries than we suspected, and that until now it was hard for him to throw downfield. It was nice to have his old self back.

From a lifelong Nebraska fan, there will never be another Tom Osborne at NU, and I think their fans know that now.  To us, following TO was like trying to follow John Wooden or someone of that calibre.  No one could have succeeded in TO's shadow unless they could continue winning NCs almost every year.  I think Frank did an admirable (better than good) job trying to continue that level of success, but it would have been impossible for anyone.  At one point, TO had a stretch when his record was 63-3!  The hard core naysayers in NE even diss TO, saying he couldn't win big in today's game!  Some fans are fanatics in the literal sense.  Imagine dissing TO after he won three NCs in his last four seasons!

When Frank was fired, the papers in NE indicated that fans were about 50-50 regarding that decision.  The AD promised to change the culture and bring in a coach who would lead NU's offense into the 21st century (lol) while still playing great D.   Calahan said NU would not take what other teams gave us, but we would take what we wanted (paraphrase).  Most people know how that bluster turned out.  Being realists, even Solich supporters knew there would be no chance of bringing him back after all the angst the state went through after the termination so that was never a serious discussion.

Now to Ohio, why shouldn't the pro-Solich fans think he should be appreciated?  What he has done so far (and what he will continue to do) is amazing given the history of the program.  I think Frank would not only like to leave the program in great shape, but also have his staff continue the success.  Wouldn't that be sweet?

The negativistas will always be there no matter how many games any coach wins.  Unfortunately, their harsh criticism often overshadows those who offer constructive criticism.  Injuries, not coaching, limited the team's w-l record and success this year.  Some OU fans have become spoiled to the point where they don't even appear to relish the big Independence Bowl win today ("We should have been playing like this all year" crowd).  How sad!  Can OU stand success?

+1

That's exactly what I said to my friend that I was watching the game with after Ohio's second TD and all those long downfield throws.  I must admit that I was not one who previously put much stock in the TT secret injury BA rumor.  Hey, I was wrong!

If TT was that debilitated, shouldn't Vick have been given a chance?  And, anyone who was at that BG game and who thinks that coaching/strategy was not a factor can't see.

Okay, now you all can light into me for having correct opinions.

In addition to Tettleton's injuries probably being more serious than was stated by the team, the offensive line was also hurt by injuries.  The coaching staff probably didn't have much confidence that the o-line could hold their blocks long enough for long pass plays to develop, etc.  Injuries can have an absolutely rippling effect on an offensive gameplan.

Bostonbobcat, and Monroe....TT was hurt much more seriously than was ever known outside of a close circle around our program.   The young man tried his best to play through the injuries when he was able to go.  The simple facts were there to see.  He was limited to running very 'defensively' for a number of games, and he could not throw the ball with his normal velocity, or distance.   If you watched much practice at all during the heart of the season, you would have seen that a less than 100% TT still gave us the best chance at success.  This assessment or opinion is not intended as a slam on our young Frosh back-up, just the way I saw the competition in practice.   That is as simple as I can explain it.    Being close to the program, and knowing what this kid was going throgh to try to play made it very difficult to read some of the posts on this website that were so critical of TT's play.  TT never complained, never used his injuries as an excuse.   My old coach had an expression that applies to TT...."he manned up", and did the best he could do under difficult circumstances.  His efforts should have been appreciated versus criticized IMO.  After a month to continue the healing process, TT certainly vindicated his play with a great bowl game victory !   Stand Up and Cheer !

That's always a tough call. Go with the quality veteran who is hurt and doesn't have all his stuff? Or, go with the new player, who is just not as good yet. You saw that decision being made at multiple positions, not just at QB. Gerald Moore had a rough season, too, but was hurt for most of it.Should he have sat out, and had someone else in? You saw the same thing on the defensive line, and probably some other positions we don't know about.

Down the stretch teams kept a little pass D back instead ULM sold out to stop Beau.  Pretty sure Louisville will make Albin beat them with the run instead of how Monroe challenged hin to use the pass.  Sure was nice of La Monroe though.  If, down the stretch, teams had played La Monroe'd D Beau wpuld not have had 1,500 yards and Futrell would have had his yards.  Some better pass protection and a full strength TT also helped.  Play calling is not just I think I will call this today.
