It is definitely a misinterpretation. We as fans settle. I am sure this was tough year for the bobcats, plenty of injuries, the first time we have been ranked and constant early media attention. I am sure the players gave their all and the coaches were also in overdrive. This is my after action review as we would say in the Army. We could have got more W's this year and at times we played down to the competition (Buffalo and Umas for example). Next Year we should see and expect improvement. The tackling needs to improve. The shedding of blocks needs to improve and safety coverage needs to improve. In my opinion the only way you do that is by opening up the competition and incenting those who show they can do this the best. Just because a player started last year does not mean he should start this year. The coaches should critique themselves just as they critique the players.
Sir, perhaps there might have been more Ws, but, by the same token there might have been more losses. The performance assessment you call for is weekly on a college football team, more frequent than in any civilian environment I have seen. You expect improvement, well, I would expect improved play at QB, RB, WR, OT, TE, CB and ILB. Experience returns at these positions and given off season lifting, spring ball, summer work, fall camp and another year for them to get bigger, stronger and faster, so yes, expect improvement. At DE, DT, OLB, S, C and G the team loses fourth or fifth year seniors with significant starting experiece. I expect play at these positions to eventually exceed that of the lost starters, though, not right away. There are factors involved beyond performance assessment and high expectations.
