A fan behind me thought there were over 50,000 there today did they say  on TV?  Appeared to be a lot larger crowd  then at Boise.

Announced attendance for today's Independence Bowl was 41,853 which was much larger than last year's crowd for the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl which was announced at 28,076.

That sounds about right. I would have thought approx. 45,000 but it was hard to tell with  so many ULM fans leaving early.

Hard to tell on TV.  They didn't have many shots of the stands.  Stadium capacity is listed as 49,565.

I'm still in Shreveport (actually Bossier City) and on the news they announced they "sold" 42,000 tickets in advance. ULM is about 100 miles east of Shreveport. These fans showed up in droves. The alumni OU fans were mainly over in section 101. The end zones had the expected empty seats and while there were a lot of empty seats in both main stands, overall, the crowd was pretty big. This bowl did not suffer from a lack of attendance like some other bowls. If La.Tech had accepted the invite, the place would have sold out. The ULM folks did not have a lot of good to say about La. Tech bowing out. In any event, the Louisiana fans treated us Ohio folks great. I'd love to come back.

Do you really think that stadium was ever 80%-90% full?

Anybody have any tickets that went unused or ones not torn from today's game? I couldn't afford to make the trip. I really like the idea of getting a pair and framing along with my black Ohio jersey for the man cave/bar wall.

PM me if you can help me with this. I appreciate it. Go 'Cats.

I think that's more a function of the size of the respective stadiums.  As I recall, Boise Stadium only holds 32,000-33,000 people, so 28,000 is a good sized crowd for that stadium.

Don't forget there where some of us who didn't make it. Due to the weather my flights got so delayed that I was unable to make the trip. I was lucky the airlines agreed to refund my tickets. So that is two of us that didn't get there...

What's the estimate on how many OHIO fans were at the Independence Bowl?

I was on the opposite side on 45 yd line with clients from our La office but from my vantage point it looked like maybe 300.  It was certainly double of what we had in Boise . I know many couldn't make it because of bad weather. Gotta hand it to Schaus and company the bowl experience has been upgraded each year.

I was told we had around 1,200 tickets sold for the game. I'm not sure if this includes things like the band and the "Tickets for Kids" deal, though.

There were smatterings of Ohio fans throughout the press box side, and a larger contingent by the band away from the other fans.

On the whole, not a bad showing considering that it was just as hard for most of us to get to this game as Boise.

That would be band, families students and such, 1,200 is pretty much right on.

I didn't include the band. Now I'm curious, are schools required to buy tickets for the band or are they given comp tickets? The band members surely don't have to buy their own tickets do they?

I think it depends on the Bowl, but in many cases the Athletic Dept picks up the tab for the cost of the seats needed for the band.
