Anything that contributes to the atmosphere of the Game Day is valuable.  But it needs to take place (logistically) in the flow of the day, not be forced.  The ones I'm aware of: PSU, Ole Miss, Clemson, often flow through/near tailgate areas...for obvious reasons.  Having the 110 involved really helps.

The band already does a warm-up session in Baker before marching over to Tailgreat, so why not have the team enter from Court into Baker, ride the escalators down and out of Baker, then walk in front of Walter, and promote tailgating on the punch card lawn, which is now totally useless and unused on game day?  Sure you couldn't "tailgate", and would be more of a picnic atmosphere, but it sure would be nice to see some bodies on game day on what should be our baseball field.

I might come over...I might not. But what does this really accomplish?

Will the players perform better? Will more people come to the games? Will we generate more money for the athletic department? I don't think this goes towards accomplishing any particular goal.

If your reason for doing it is that "Penn State and O$U do", I'm not sure it's all that worthwhile.

It could do all of the above. Under the right circumstances it could fire up the players, causing them to play better. It could create a more fun/memorable game experience, and if so, it might bring more fans to the game, and develop longer term affinity between the fans and the program. That, in turn, might bring more money to the athletic program in the long term.

Basically anything that makes the game day experience more fun is good for the long term health of the program., and especially good if the cost is little or nothing. Don't think of this as seen by your eyes. Think of it from the eyes of, say, a twelve year old, where dad is taking him to the game, and he gets to see the real players before the game. Will it make him want to keep coming back, as he grows up?

FWIW, I've wondered why fall athletes are not part of the homecoming parade.

Wouldn't most be playing that day (many on the road)? Volleyball, field hockey, cross country and soccer are all away many fall weekends. If they're at home, they're probably either playing or getting ready to. Doesn't seem like much of a mystery to me.

For some reason I doubt that Frank would want his team marching in a parade the day of a game.

first off, who cares what OSU and Penn St does?? The point of this would be to show support for the team. Not to generate money, not to copy another school. Who knows if it would help the team play better, but i know it would give the players a lil boost of energy. It feels good to see fans come out and show support. Not to mention traditions like this can give a program an extra edge when it comes to recruiting.

IIRC, punch card park is pretty much always useless. I guess encouraging tailgating/pre-game picnicing there would be a good way to drum up business for local orthopedic surgeons, what with all those random holes in the ground...

I have asked previously about integrating Punch Card park into game day activities. The Athletic Dept. has been denied access.

You've got the right idea, BobcatPride5!  For me, it's not even about recruiting.  It's about OHIO football players and coaches. It's about showing fan gratitude for their hard work. Frank "is all about" getting the job done.  He may not want his players distracted by such a walk.  If this is the case....What Frank says......GOES!

One major improvement to game day atmosphere would be to fire the head of the parking department!  Those people present a horrible impression of Ohio University.  I've had numerous unreasonable requests by this department.  I'm a blue lot parking ticket holder.  If President McDavis knew how fans are treated, I think he would be looking into some new department heads.

YHGTBFKM!  Brilliant move there.

"Hey, here's some land directly adjacent to our football venue which is a great pastoral setting that almost no one realizes is also a work of art.  Can we use it six days a year, and perhaps more people will have an appreciation for it?"

"Uh, no."

Punch card park has always reminded me of a scene in North Dallas Forty. You know when the lineman is freaking out and says "Every time I call it  a game, you call it a business. And every time I call it a business, you call it a game."

Every time we call it a park, the university calls it a work of art. And every time we question its status as a work of art, we're told it's a park.

To me, the indented pieces would be perfect for a tailgate. Put your grill in the middle and use the the perimeter as seating. For the raised areas, I guess the perimeter could be used for seating as well. Put the high-brow alumni tents close to Walter Hall so they have a more suitable bathroom experience. Put that together with the 110 doing their pre-game show on the steps of Walter Hall, and you have yourself some game day atmosphere in the park.

Walk will give all of us total experts here a chance to speak with the players and coaches as they walk by, giving them our ultra-genius advice.

I would pay to watch you giving Tim Albin a 5-minute brain dump prior to a game.
