Having been in Toledo for a time now, UT has a big event each spring as a fundraiser for athletics that I think would be equally popular in Athens. Have it on a Saturday evening in the Convo, food and beverage from some of Athens finest, and auction off great Bobcat memorabilia. Entrance is limited to 350 tickets to keep the crowd from being overwhelming and gives raffle ticket holders a great chance at walking away with something. Everyone who buys a ticket also gets 6 football coupons for the upcoming football season. Worth a look.

Interesting thought...I think we'd have enough interest and $$$ to make this happen.
One thing that bothers me from Toledo's is that it doesn't say where the money actually goes. Scholarships? The annual fund? Capital projects? I think it might help if they specify that.
Also, with so many lavish prizes and free food, I question how much money they really make.

I believe the food and prizes (other than cash) is donated from local businesses in return for goodwill towards the university as well as advertising at the event. It says in the article that any businesses that would like to donate items to the event are welcome to.
