D-III John Carroll University is about to jump from the prestigious Ohio Athletic Conference to the North Coast Athletic Conference in 2025. https://footballscoop.com/news/john-carroll-leaving-the-p...

Instead of the futility of competing against Mt Union every year (winners of 29 of the last 30 OAC championships), JCU will take on Denison, DePauw, Hiram, Kenyon, Oberlin, Ohio Wesleyan, Wabash, Wittenberg, and Wooster. A bit more manageable.

Mount is on the decline. This is a poor decision on many fronts. Them bus rides just got REAL long. They would have been much better to join the PAC.

Of course, the official announcements are pure spin. Talking about wanting to be associated with more elite academic institutions.

Also some rumors that they are concerned about the future financial viability of some OAC schools, but I doubt that's a true concern.

But Wabash and DePauw will be the only longer bus trips from what I can see.

Mount football may not be quite as dominant, but they are still ruling the OAC and I don't see that changing.

I don't think the PAC would have been a good move. The PAC is a lower tier D3 basketball league. Joining PAC would kill JCU's strength of schedule, which is a very important factor in earning Pool C (at large) NCAA berths.

Hate to see them leave the OAC.
