Name who you think will be the starters at each position offense and defense.

Too early for me.

I can tell you…..as transfers go….the safety from Northern Colorado and the linebacker from Bucknell will start.

I'm not even going to try to do this until they update the roster to delete those whose eligibility is used up. I will still be wrong, but at least I won't list anyone with no more eligibility.

I agree with much of this. I would add that on offense McCormick will be right behind Hunt at RB. I also expect to see Rodney Harris take a big step up next year in the mix at WR. On defense, I fully expect to see Kobi Gorman nail down the NT spot. Jeremiah Wood will also be in the mix at OLB or NB. As for Ben Jonson, I thought I saw he entered the portal.

I wasn't sure about Buell, Brawley or Johnson. I really like the sneaky quiet additions to the defense (Leake, Johnson and Proche). I am hopeful Hilton gets some run at wideout. Seemed to be a pretty decent receiver for Citadel. Who knows who else we'll get. I was just taking a stab.

Wasn't sure if Buell had any eligibility left (was in JUCO in 2020), that is HUGE. Outside of Houston/Thompson I think he was our best defender on numerous occasions. Him and Weaver coming back will be massive. Hunter has been a tremendous underachiever, but hopefully this a breakout year because we need him more than ever.

Would also like to see what Jay Crabel can do having had a year to bulk up and practice. Really need some LB production.

Buell originally signed at Rutgers back in 2019 but didn't enroll. He then went to JUCO for two years and started both seasons in 2020 and 2021, but the 2020 season was a wash being it was the Covid year. He came to Ohio with 3 years of eligibility remaining. He then played 9 games in 2022 and 13 games in 2023 at Ohio. So he has one more year left in 2024. I'm somewhat surprised he didn't enter the portal himself to get back to the P5 for his last year. He certainly could play there.

Weaver is a beast and he's THE guy I'm surprised didn't bolt in the portal from the defensive side of the ball. Ohio is going to have to fight like hell to keep him around next year as he's exactly what P5 teams are looking for. I thought Weaver was right behind Miami's Woullard and BG's Howell this year, and both Miami and BG lost their guys to the P5. Miami's Woullard went to Oklahoma and BG's Howell went to Texas A&M. Weaver is going to stick out like a sore thumb with those two guys moving on.

The entire defense should be very good again next season, and as far as the units go (DL, LB, DB), I think the DL will be the top unit. There's some outstanding players on it and also quality depth.

Hunter will need to step up his game to beat out our latest portal transfer DE Ben McNaboe who has attended Minnesota and North Dakota.

In looking at the roster, I came up with 12 players who are probably out of eligibility: Wiglusz, Amburgey, Oakes, Watkins, Sutton, Bonner, Matthews, Houston, Birchette, Reynolds, Holloway, and Wheatley. Of those, Wheatley may have been a walkon. So...Ohio lost about 11 scholarship players, yet in the early signing period, Ohio added 18 scholarship players. That tells me that the coaches were expecting to lose at least 7 players to the portal. When they lost 18, they were able to add quite a few from the portal in order to get the numbers back in balance.

I would like to think that Doggette from Cincinnati can compete also.

My guess is that Doggette moves to DT at Ohio. He played DT in high school, and is listed at 270.

I would also expect our new WR from San Jose State to get some run. Film looks great and I'm sure he's not transferring this far just to sit. He would be a nice addition to the receiving corp.

I am not as doom and gloom as I was with the players we lost. Sieh and Allison hurt and so does Rourke. If Williams is healthy, I am less worried about TE. I love our receivers and our offensive line. Hunt is a stud and if we can get a backup to carry a few times a quarter we are golden. We will miss Houston, Reynolds, Cox, Reynolds and Thompson as our heavy hitters on defense but we return some really nice pieces while picking up some guys. Kudos to the staff for reloading maybe not as sexy as some would like but admirable nonetheless.

Tony Mathis JR should be able to play at S right away.

Our highest rated recruit next season. Had offers from everyone, but Santa Claus.

I think Amburgey still has a year of eligibility if he chooses to use it.

2019 - Redshirt
2020 - Covid year doesn't count
2021 - Freshman eligibility
2022 - Soph
2023 - Junior

QB - Navarro
RB - Hunt
TE - M. Williams
WR - Jones, Owen, Ross
OL - Dennison, Atkinson, Titsworth, Jackson, Rhodes

DE - McNaboe, Weaver
DT - Buell, Doggette
LB - Leake, Taylor
CB - Cox, Parodie
SAF - A. Williams, Brawley, Johnson

Lots of familiar names, some transfers. Hard for me to imagine there being a better QB than Navarro on the roster. I just haven’t seen it. I know the sample size is small…but he gave me Rourke 2017 vibes in the bowl win. Could we get Rourke 2018 from Navarro in 2024!?

Good group.

Parker is good but Gunnar will give him some tough competition.

Andrew Marshall at DE? Not linebacker?

And I think we've been spoiled by Thompson and Houston in the middle of OUr defense.

Interesting projections, Insider. Thanks! Defensive line has few surprises, except the shift of Marshall to Jack. The secondary has some players moving positions, such as Parodie to FC and Williams to FS, which isn't surprising. To me the biggest surprises are at SS and Will, particularly seeing true Freshman Stellen Bowman in the #2 Will spot.

I said it somewhere before, but if we got Tony Mathis in the building for spring, I would be surprised if he didn't appear on the 2 deep roster.

We currently have TEN (is that normal) safeties..

He is not currently on the roster... ruh roh... but he (was/is) one of our highest rated recruits next season. Had offers from Michigan, Nebraska, West Virgina, Purdue...

He tweeted his commitment back in Dec...

I hope the three injuries aren’t too serious as I think all three could start.
