While there are some very positive things going on here lately, we are basically giving away tickets to games and our donations to the athletic department remain very low by almost any standard. Now big gifts like the for the IPF can make a difference, but we need a lot more of those kinds of gifts to move the needle at Ohio. And a few 14-0 years in FB and sweet sixteens in BB.

"In total, football ticket revenue increased by 31 percent, establishing a new program record.....Overall, the combined football and men's basketball ticket sales revenue generated during the 2012-2013 year represented a 32 percent increase over the previous season. This mark is also the highest combined football and men's basketball ticket revenue on record in Mid-American Conference history " source

We had the largest ticket revenue attainment in the history of the MAC last year. There's always room for growth but we're obviously doing more than "basically givin away tickets to games".
the fact that our sales last year eclipsed previous MAC sales is an indictment of the conference. When we are still selling tickets for $4.50 and the fact that I can get Phillips seats for $110 for the season and you don't think that we are basically giving away seats? What was total bb and fb ticket revenue last year- under a million? We are giving away seats compared to the rest of the football world.

We cannot simply charge Ohio State ticket prices and expect to collect Ohio State ticket revenue, it doesn't work that way. We have to strike a balance of perceived value of the product we're selling and the demand for it within our market. If we are able to find the sweet spot successfully we will see an increase in both sales and revenue. We set records for both.

You say we are giving away tickets compared to the rest of the football world, but compared to the rest of the football world we rank 91st in attendance. Raising ticket prices will not improve our attendance compared to the rest of the football world. If the price was too low all of our games would have been sold out, we sold out 2.

I didn't mean to say that we should charge more, I recognize where Ohio Is located, economy-wise. I'm just stating a fact that tickets are cheap compared to other places. We simply don't have a way to raise a lot of money selling tickets . And I will say again that our donation level, both in number of donors and amount of money raised is low. Just check out the Bobcat Club materials sent to get us to resign up to see what I mean.

This is the most poorly written Subject line for a thread I have ever seen on Bobcatattack.

I don't think we're giving away tickets at all. This year, there's 3 games with ticket prices of $35 or $30.

The $4.50 a game is for the lowest-end season ticket package in the endzone...it's a ploy to get new season ticket holders on board. Every other season ticket section is significantly more expensive. Sure, it's not SEC prices - but in some quick research, it looks to me like our premium seats are the most expensive in the MAC.

The fact that we set the MAC ticket revenue record last year should tell you that the ticket sales strategy is working pretty well. Sure, it may also be an indictment on the MAC...but like it or not, those are the peers against which we are compared.

What did surprise me was how low we are in the MAC when it comes to donations (from the OBC brochure). How can we do so well with ticket sales but yet so poorly with donations relative to the "lowly" MAC?

Just asking a question, not trying to be antagonizing, but when was the last time Marshall beat Ohio in football or basketball?

I mostly skimmed through the banter of this thread, but did I just see something about Ohio being a good fit for the Big XII in the future? The same Big XII that has Texas and Oklahoma?

Texas installed an over 7,000 square foot scoreboard at their football stadium and it's nicknamed "Godzillatron." I think we can pump the brakes a bit on Ohio being a good fit for that league. That scoreboard and the audio/visual improvements they made to DKR Memorial Stadium of $8 million is probably more than Ohio'd entire football budget, or close to it, since I don't actual numbers in front of me.

Not sure where you did the research but I checked just Toledo and Akron and their premium seats are way more expensive.

Look at the footprint of the 2 conferences and let everybody figure out where Ohio belongs. Frankly Marshall as well

I thought it was Franklin & Marshall.

I'm for it; would make it a lot easier for me to see games.

I'm embarrassed by the hostility toward mckayt on here by a few of our posters.  I thought he was just asking a simple question.  But a few of you have tried to impugn his motives.  Why can't we welcome fans of opposing schools who are not flaming or trash talking, but merely coming on this site to discuss a legitimate question?

I've already apologized for venting ; however, I question his tact in his questioning.

Part of the issue was his Thread Subject Line, which was not a question, but a statement.

I have one reason CUSA would be good for Ohio. An extra 1 Million dollars a year in revenue. Why wouldn't you want more money, especially since you are lumped right in with the GO5 and it doesn't matter whether you are in the AAC or the Sunbelt, but might as well make more money while you are doing it. And the travel costs do not offset the benefits, especially with the new configuration. But anyway, the natural "I don't want in your conference" attitude by those who can't be a part of it is natural. People scorn what they can't have. Its the same as our fans saying they don't want to be in AAC, when they would break their necks to get there if we got an invite.

I don't know why MU and OU fans don't want both schools to rise together, I root for OU when tey don't play marshall Green is Green, even if it is a slightly different shade.

Just off the top of my head.....Tradition. Honor. Relationships. Stability. A recognition that the never-ending quest of chasing money is the problem with college athletics. Regional branding for academic recruiting. #MACtion.

Travel expenses have to be a consideration regardless of recent realignments in CUSA. Football is only 1 of the 16 or so sports that teams travel to. It's getting your softball team to Texas or Florida that adds up. I'd love to see the travel numbers before I just write them off .
