What about something like the Palmetto Bowl in Columbia, South Carolina in Brice-Eckles?  Charleston would be a better location but what would be the largest stadium?  The Citadel?

Would be in a warmer location and in the Sun Belt footprint.

When I lived in Chucktown six or so years ago, there was talk about having the Palmetto Bowl there. It's was rumored that ESPN was pushing for it. The sticking point had to do with the renovation of the Citadel's stadium. To get the bowl, they had to increase the seats significantly, something the Citadel didn't want to do.

There were also some rumors that the whole Confederate flag  issue was keeping it from happening. As they say in Charleston, "Keep it flying, South Carolina. Heritage not hate. States' rights. Happiness is a Northbound Yankee. War of Northern aggression."

You damn Yankees stay the hell out of my state. Actually Willians Brice holds 85,000 but USC would probably never allow it. They turned down the Carolina Panthers the first year because they said it would compete with USC.

Nashville seems like an option, in the Sunbelt's footprint via MTSU (though as I type this I can't remember if MTSU will be in the Sunbelt going forward or not).

They do have a bowl, though....Music City Bowl

Not a MAC/Sunbelt bowl.
Shouldn't be a problem. Theres a couple of cities that host multiple bowl games.

CUSA has had a contract with them for several years.  They just haven't had enough bowl-eligible teams to send one there.  With the move to Annapolis, maybe that'll make an opening for RFK in DC.

You know, if the MAC is looking for smaller stadiums in its footprint, how about fitting football fields into Great American Ballpark, PNC Field or Busch Stadium.  They're all in the 45,000 range.

One other thought is Norfolk, Va.  Decembers are usually pretty nice there (I've seen roses bloom there at Christmas) and it's touristy.  The stadium only seats 30,000 but I understand it's a nice facility.

For those who say those kind of things, I have one pithy thought:  "We won.  You lost.  Deal with it!"

Ohio "Boys in Blue" > South Carolina Secesh Trash

All that being said, things are a lot different now in South Carolina.  Four years ago they elected their first African American Congressman since Reconstruction, whose district included the part of Charleston where the building had stood that had housed the secession ordinance vote.  The irony of this is certainly interesting.  That man, Tim Scott, is now the first-ever black Senator from South Carolina.  The Reb apologists, while a mouthy bunch, are a decreasing minority that will eventually be part of the ash bin of history where they belong.

I'd prefer seeing two teams from smaller conferences playing in a smaller stadium that is full to packed.  Watching Ohio take on Troy in a mostly empty 70,000 person isn't good for anyone.

Disagree on a point or two, but this isn't the place to debate it.

ESPN reporting the the Lions are looking to create a new bowl game in 2014 involving the Big Ten and ACC.

It's rumored that it would kill the Little Caesar's Bowl.

Yes, to many still they did not lose it is just halftime.

Shame about Citadel.  Bowl in Charleston would be killer.  Great restaurants.

The Big Ten blog on ESPN mentioned today that the Little Caesar's Bowl is going away and the Detroit Lions will create their own bowl.  With the primary participants being the Big Ten and leaving out the MAC in favor of the ACC.  More than likely we will have a preferred secondary position for it, but still kinda disappointing.

Detroit Free Press writer, Mark Snyder, just tweeted that the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl could be moving to Comerica Park. So Im just going to wait and let this sort itself out. But being outside on a December Afternoon in Detroit doesn't sound too enjoyable.

If this new Detroit bowl has a B1G tie in that is pretty far down the line like the Little Caesars Bowl, the MAC can sign on as a secondary tie in and be in it 80% of the time, considering the B1G rarely had enough eligible teams for the LC Bowl as it was.

You may not like a MAC bowl in Detroit, but at least it was close and guaranteed. This hurts IMO, but hopefully an adequate replacement can be found.

The Fords can't stand Illitch and are finally going to kick him out of Ford Field for good. And some wondered why the LCPB didn't serve Little Caesar's pizza, LOL. You know that the LC came in and "rescued" the bowl from the Big 3 that the Fords have had it in for them ever since. I'd follow Illitch. Look at what the Tigers and Red Wings have done since he's owned them v. what the Lions have done. Bill III is better than Bill Clay, but c'mon.

The new Lions Bowl would likely replace the Ticket City/Heart of Dallas Bowl for the Big Tenfinity.  They haven't won down there in three tries vs Big 12 & CUSA, and would rather have something closer to home in pro stadium instead of the aging Cotton Bowl Stadium (which doesn't even host the Cotton Bowl anymore).

If the MAC/Sun Belt want to put a new bowl game in a "smaller stadium" with a matchup of two teams from these conferences, they might as well call it the "Toilet Bowl" because that is about what it would amount to in most of the public's eyes.  It will probably be about as exciting as scheduling ESPN to cover the next quilting bee at the Nelsonville Senior Center.

The early line has Agnes as a 7.5-stitch favorite over Beatrice.
