With the idea and possibility that Ohio's D.J. Cooper will be drafted to the NBA and the fact that Eric Herman has already been drafted to the NFL, I pose this question:

Has there ever been another year in Ohio Bobcats Athletics history when players from different sports were drafted into different leagues in the same year? If so, when? Bonus points for not looking it up.

We've already had two different sports have drafted players this year. Obviously Eric Herman, but there was also a baseball player drafted this year. So the real question is.. will we have THREE different OHIO sports teams have drafted members this year?

Edit: I think I win because the correct answer was, in fact, 2012-13

Off the top of my head, I want to say it was Brandon Hunter's senior year. I can't think of the football player that would have been drafted though.

As Business Cat was saying, Ohio already has had Eric Herman taken in the NFL Draft and Brett Barber in the MLB Draft. This also happened last year with LaVon Brazill and Seth Streich.

The last time, Ohio had both an NFL and NBA pick in this same year way back quite a few years. I had to look it up, so I won't say yet. There was an MLB pick in his particular year, too.

By the way, in 2010, Ohio had three players taken in the MLB Draft (Eldemire, Maddox, Yakubik), one in the NFL draft (Taylor Price) and one in the NBDL Draft (Armon Bassett).

Dave Zastudil? He's the only football player from that timeframe I can think of that would have been drafted.

Brandon Hunter was in 2003 and Zastudil was 2002.

UpSan, go ahead and reveal what you found.

Hunter could have been in the same year as Zastudil. He initially entered the draft a year early but withdrew as many guys did, just to get an idea of their status.

Prior to Zastudil, Ohio didn't have a player drafted since 1976, so it goes back a long time. 1972 was the most recent year where there was both a pick in the NBA and NFL Draft. Tackle Al Benton (4th round) and punter Dave Green (17th round) both were taken in the NFL Draft and Tom Corde (8th round) was taken in the NBA Draft. Mike Hannah went in the 4th round and Bo Kleiber in the 29th round of the MLB Draft.

Of those players, only Green ever played in the leagues they were drafted into.

None of the above Prior to Zastudill and Hunter, post would be drafted today as both the NFL and NBA have severally curtailed their respective drafts.

I wouldn't say none. Benton was in the 4th round, and there are seven rounds now in the NFL draft, but it is a good point that many guys drafted didn't really stand a good chance of actually making a team. However, there are a lot more picks per round now also.

Ohio has never had a player taken in the first seven rounds of the NFL Draft in the same year a player also was taken in the first two rounds of the NBA Draft.

So with Herman's draft earlier this Spring, Coop could change that by getting drafted in the first two rounds!
