If this (the football board) isn't the appropriate place to post this, I'm fine with one of the other mods moving it elsewhere.

Since I've had access to the Fox soccer networks, I've really begun taking an interest in watching rugby.  There are two distinct types of rugby.  My favorite is the kind where there are scrums after every tackle.

Just wondered if there are others on here who like rugby.  IMO, despite not wearing pads, it's less dangerous than American football.

For those of you who actually have knowledge of rugby, what suggestions would you have for me to increase my knowledge of the sport?

This is probably the best quick-start guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiCiehJAFSg

My best advice is to watch a game, on televison or DVD, with someone who knows rugby.  That way you can pause and rewind the action, and ask all the questions you want. I think it is difficult to learn rugby standing on the sidelines of a college/high school game, because your point-of-view is not optimal.  Like hockey, you want to watch it from more of a bird's-eye angle unti you get familiar with it.  Othewise it turns out looking like pure chaos.

Learning rugby is not super easy, but once you've got it down, it's a blast.

I used to party with the rugby team. Crazy dudes. They played this game called frying pan- two guys take turns bashing each other on the head with a frying pan, if you remain conscious you drink, if you get knocked out you lose.  Good times.

I played football at Ohio my freshman year ( walked on) but played Rugby for two years when it first started at OU. I think 72 was the first year and OU was outstanding. Jim Farmer was the guy that got it started and we really had outstanding teams that pretty much beat up on everyone back then. We had some spectular parties back in those days.
