I may make the trip up again this season depending on what the people I tailgate with do. Just wondering if there was any word on TV yet? Probably ESPN3 at the very least, but here's hoping to ESPN, ESPN2, or the U.

Since the conference has announced our main schedule with ESPN dates, I doubt it'll be on E1/2/U, simply because we don't often get late adds there, because they have so many other games that have to be put on to satisfy various contracts.

I'd say STO is a possibility, or online-only ESPN3 seems likely.

Thanks. If it's on ESPN3, hopefully WCHS or WVAH air the ESPN3 feed.

In 2010 I believe that is what WSAZ did when we played at Bowling Green.

Come on up to the game even if it's on TV.  If the weather is decent, it will be a fun day.

Putting the Marshall game at 8 pm is crazy...all in the name of getting on ESPN3!! That's not even TV, it's an internet webstream. How the heck can ESPN dictate times for that?? If we want to play at 4 am, they can still stream it.

It's one thing to change kick-off for ESPN2 or even ESPNU...but I think we (are perhaps more appropriately, the MAC) need to draw the line with ESPN3.

wow, I didn't notice the start times. what the heck? Marshall at 8pm, Ohio State @ Cal at 7pm. Brilliant. And the North Texas game the week before is at 7pm.

Why are we playing  home games on Saturday nights in September, do we not want any students to show up? And if it streams on ESPN3 will be the bars uptown have it on?

this is dumb.

Home opener last year vs. New Mexico State was 7 p.m. and was second-highest attendance game (25,000+) in school history. Got 23,000+ the year before for 7 p.m. game vs. Gardner-Webb. Two years ago 7 p.m. vs. Marshall had 24,000+. Three years ago, Wofford, 23,000 for 7 p.m. game, and year before that, 24,000+ for UConn. It seems the early-season evening games are all around sellout status, so although some students might not like it, somebody does.

I don't understand the hate for the 8pm start.  Hell, that is the BEST start time.  Cooler weather, more time to tailgate. more time for the crowd to get "primed".  The game is definitely affordable.  You can buy 4 season tickets for $119.  Holy crap!  That is less than $5 per ticket.  Or that's less than $30 per person for this one game if that is the only game you go to.  Hell, we're charging more than that for this single away game ticket and you would have 5 other tickets (20 total) to donate to the local Boys and Girls club in Athens.  Giving tickets away.

I just can't get over $119 for four season tickets.  Herd fans (and Ohio fans) should be there in droves!

I wouldn't be worried about the OSU game. I have seen a rapid shift in the football culture among our students in the last two years. It's become less and less okay to wear Buckeye gear around Athens lately. We'll have 24,000-plus, but how many will leave to go uptown before we put the game away.

I like the start time. As others have said, more tailgating/uptown time AND no sunburn risk watching from the stands.

The Marshall game would likely be at 7:00 pm anyway...but moving it to 8:00 makes it pretty darned late for those with young families. And all for ESPN3?? That's what gets me. Why can't they stream the game at 7:00??

ok, that makes sense now that I think about it. I guess with the sun being out at the start of the game I had it my head that those games were in the afternoon. cool.

This is the one Saturday game I know I simply cannot make. Very disappointed. I expect a great crowd in Peden.

It really isn't. The hour shift from 7 pm to 8 pm makes a big difference.
1. As I mentioned on another thread, we have a problem with students leaving to go to the bars. They are more likely to do that if halftime is at 9:30 or 10 than if halftime is at 8:30 or 9.
2. A large portion (possibly a majority) of our non-student fans live more than an hour away from Athens. With an 8 pm start, you aren't getting home until after 1 am. Maybe that hour doesn't seem like much, but I sure feel it every time we have an 8 pm game.
3. The aforementioned $119 season ticket package is a "Family Four Pack". You get 2 adult tickets and 2 youth tickets. Kids don't do well at games starting at 8 pm.

I don't know if that's the case....Definitely not a majority.

I think a lot of you guys are worrying about nothing.  Yeah, some students will go to the bars at around halftime if it's a blowout one way or the other, but I think that most students will stick around if it's a good game.

I don't think anyone should be worrying about the whole family pack issue with kickoff starting at 8pm.  It is on a SATURDAY after all.  While this may interfere with the church-going crowd, I don't see a dip in attendance because of it.  Plus, I think night games have the absolute BEST atmosphere for college football.

Ohio State's playing Cal around the same time we're playing?  Alright, maybe we'll loose some students, but honestly think that most students would rather watch a good game in person than what is sure to be a blowout on TV.  Plus almost every student has the capability of checking scores online from their phones.

*insert dreaming section here:

Just imagine if we start 2-0? there is going to be a lot of hype behind this team, much like there was last year after beating Penn State.  I have full faith in the marketing team here that they'll not only get students to come, but to mostly stick around after halftime.
