They have candidates to replace him but a big blow to lose a 1,000 yard rusher.

I don't care how good their defense is, don't know how they can compete without their top rusher and an under-performing QB. I guess their strategy is going to be- play tough defense, don't turn the ball over, and hope the other team's kicking game implodes in dramatic fashion.

If you read the BG article, it looks to me like they have quite a few talented guys to step in. I wouldn't count on there being no rushing game. Lets see how it pans out.

I don't know. They knew Samuel might not be around, and they recruited 4 RBs in their 2013 class. You don't recruit 4 guys to RB in a single year if you're confident the ones you have can do the job.

I would find this funny if that game wasn't still causing me to lose sleep sometimes.

Ugh......same here.  It was a microcosm of all that was wrong with our team to that point of the season that we were able to mask/compensate for prior to that, especially what I will call our "unorthodox" punting style.  At the time I viewed the Miami loss as a hiccup, especially with the bounce back with EMU.  Little did I know it was the beginning of a tailspin, albeit due mainly to a huge rash of injuries.  As high as I was after the Penn State win I was equally as low because we basically gift wrapped most of their points for them.  Had never seen so many punting gaffes in a high school game, let alone D1 college.

For what it's worth we don't have to worry about Samuel repeating this:

"Samuel led the offensive attack for BGSU with 181 yards on 29 carries.  Samuel's 181 yards and 29 carries were both career highs."

That being said one of his successors could duplicate that feat.
