Very Cool to see this game picked up for TV. Here is the entire link for ESPN coverage.

I'm familiar with ESPN News but don't recall it ever being used for live game broadcasts. Is this a new option for ESPN?

I can't remember seeing it before either. They used to use ESPN Classic for some live games. Maybe they are just supplanting that with ESPNNews.

I guess we now have an answer to "why is it 8pm for a web stream?"

Scheduling stuff on News is new, yes. There were a couple NASCAR events scheduled on it this year, too, when there were conflicts on 1 and 2. Interesting thing about this is that News has been the overflow any time a game went long, and depending on how heavily the network is scheduled with live events. Maybe the thinking is WatchESPN/ESPN3 penetration is high enough that it is good enough for overflow now?

News is in a similar number of homes as U, maybe fewer people know what channel it is... Maybe this helps that? Live events are the lifeblood of sports TV, the more the better in my opinion.

(My thoughts, not my employer's, etc.)

They've used News for some of the European soccer broadcasts, too.  It's good to see them doing this.  There's only so much repetition they can put on News.  The highlights they show ad nauseum on News are no different from what they run any of the Sportscenters that show up on the other three ESPNs, so why not put more live stuff on.

No, they've used it for spare live broadcasts for years. They broadcast international soccer matches on there quite a bit, actually.
