ummm wow. I'm with you.  Evan was great and definitely spoiled us.  I'm thinking that it'll get better as time goes on, and he continues to get experience.

If you didn't pay close attention in the first 5 seconds you don't even know what team it is.  Yikes!

Knowing who they've hired, and knowing that person isn't in Athens yet, I'm not terribly worried by this yet. Yes, we will miss Evan tremendously, he had (has) a phenomenal talent, but I certainly do not expect this to be indicative of what we can expect going forward, either.

Oh noooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I know nothing about who was hired but he/she better up the effort.

Looks like some of the promo vids other schools did to copy CAT Evan's work. They were...uh...not good.

By all means, then, let's pile on the guy (or woman) before he or she begins work.

Praying for another season of Relentless but without Evan I assume it's doubtful. Seriously think his work helped OUr program out with recruitting and making OUr team feel special.

Wow.

This thread has me wondering if expectations are higher for the team or  the video coordinator.  Please, everyone take a deep breath.  Near as I can recall, the outcome of exactly 0 games was decided by who put out the better pre-game videos  (or which band performed better at half-time, for that matter).  Just sayin'.

You don't think the recruits watch these videos when they are deciding on a school? Every part of the program is used as leverage in recruiting battles. Videos, facilities, the band, cheerleaders, fans. Everything helps.

So, you clearly have an agenda.  I'll wait to see his work before passing judgement.  And let's face it, the program is not going to live or die based on our motivational videos.

Exactly. These things were "nice to haves" but programs don't live and die because of videos. Hopefully we can all give the new guy the benefit of the doubt.

That camp open video is great.  Concise, showcases our players in unique ways, ends with TheBigMan firing us up.

I don't at all get the objections.  Evan was terrific.  Absolutely.

Now, look at that video as if he'd done it.  What would you think?

Does the vid fire you up for some OHIO FOOTBALL!

This is who we are talking about correct, Tanner Smith, the new Assistant Athletic Director for Multimedia Marketing?

With an Emmy nomination for his work on Temple TUFF, evidently some (including those at OHIO) think he has some talent.  Here is an example of that work - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8EC9F0kP4U

Considering he was not in town yet for the video in question, I would not base his work on it.  It was OK for what it is and who was available to work on it.

Things are really going to get started in a couple of days...it's Football time!! Let's GO BOBCATS!!!

That video is terrible.

Expectations are high for Shaw's replacement, as they should be. There's no reason we should expect or accept a drop off in quality of our video productions. We've got to move past this country bumpkin "we don't deserve to have nice things so just appreciate what you got" mentality and continue pushing this program, and the university, forward.

Agree--I bet the players enjoyed it.  You should too.

What is there about it that irks you naysayers?  Remember:  this is clearly for the team and Ohio fans.  Given the lack of dialogue and much to indicate that it's O H I O, this is not build us up with those who don't know us.  This is for those who already know.

This is for us.  This is to spark the season.  Get aboard with Crutch.  Gotta love it.

I wonder what the hiring process was like for this job.  I wonder if they looked to some of Evan's past interns first.  I for one know that his assistant from 2011-12 is an alum, currently looking for a job, and a grad of our fine VisCom program.  He's extremely talented and was good friends with Evan back when they were on campus.  Not sure if he was considered but that'd seem like a no-brainer.

Don't know anything about the hiring process, or who they looked at, nor who interned with Evan the last couple years since I've been out of Athens, but Tanner is a Scripps grad, OHIO to the core, spent a lot of time with Gridiron Glory and Bobcat Showcase, and was part of the group that put In Coop We Trust together, so an outsider to the area and program he is not.

I'm not saying we won't miss Evan's work - he's a pretty singular talent; however, I don't think we should judge his replacement before his feet hit Athens' soil again.

I think this is the correct view. Why not wait and judge him for his body of work in a year? No, the promo wasn't award winning material, but the guys looked like they were having fun. More importantly, they look fired up.

I'm a recent Scripps Journalism grad (2013) and know Tanner. He's an amazingly talented person and will do a great job. I guarantee that video is not from him.

He did a fantastic job with Bobcat Showcase and has other impressive feats at WOUB. As somebody getting involved in the same field as him, I'll tell you that he has what it takes.

Evan Shaw was amazing but Ohio Athletics is still in good hands with Tanner.

Thanks for posting, and I am perfectly willing to let the new guy get settled before judging him.

The grammar wizard who is the Akron Beacon Journal's beat reporter for the Zips wrote an article yesterday that included the following:  "...but it was all for not."

I'm not surprised that idiot didn't know it should be "naught," but the fact that it got past their copy desk is pretty damn sad.

I guess the copy desk's failure makes the reporter's error a mute point irregardless.
