We are probably paying the guy 35K, not the figure that lands top notch national talent.

I would prefer to wait and view a larger body of work beyond a 30 second blurb before passing judgment.

I wonder what the hiring process was like for this job.  I wonder if they looked to some of Evan's past interns first.  I for one know that his assistant from 2011-12 is an alum, currently looking for a job, and a grad of our fine VisCom program.  He's extremely talented and was good friends with Evan back when they were on campus.  Not sure if he was considered but that'd seem like a no-brainer.

Don't know anything about the hiring process, or who they looked at, nor who interned with Evan the last couple years since I've been out of Athens, but Tanner is a Scripps grad, OHIO to the core, spent a lot of time with Gridiron Glory and Bobcat Showcase, and was part of the group that put In Coop We Trust together, so an outsider to the area and program he is not.

I'm not saying we won't miss Evan's work - he's a pretty singular talent; however, I don't think we should judge his replacement before his feet hit Athens' soil again.

I think this is the correct view. Why not wait and judge him for his body of work in a year? No, the promo wasn't award winning material, but the guys looked like they were having fun. More importantly, they look fired up.

I'm a recent Scripps Journalism grad (2013) and know Tanner. He's an amazingly talented person and will do a great job. I guarantee that video is not from him.

He did a fantastic job with Bobcat Showcase and has other impressive feats at WOUB. As somebody getting involved in the same field as him, I'll tell you that he has what it takes.

Evan Shaw was amazing but Ohio Athletics is still in good hands with Tanner.

I'm with you, Monroe. It's still Ohio football, and anyone that doesn't agree can take it up with Crutcher.

Thanks for posting, and I am perfectly willing to let the new guy get settled before judging him.

By the way, it's "...in the same field as he." But then, you already knew that, right?  Just busting your chops.

Robert - OCF will be glad to see we have another grammar "Nazi" on the board.  He was getting a little tired proofing everyone's posts.

Alan,
I wouldn't have done it, but being the poster is a 2013 Scripps grad, I thought it was appropriate.

The grammar wizard who is the Akron Beacon Journal's beat reporter for the Zips wrote an article yesterday that included the following:  "...but it was all for not."

I'm not surprised that idiot didn't know it should be "naught," but the fact that it got past their copy desk is pretty damn sad.

I guess the copy desk's failure makes the reporter's error a mute point irregardless.
