Yeah.  I'm not seeing more than 1,000 of our fans traveling to a bowl in the Bahamas.  Probably would be less than 1,000.  Costs would keep most away.

But the 1,000 that do go are going to be prime targets for additional athletics giving.

let's see, what you're saying is that there are 3000-4000 Ohio alums who are just sitting around waiting to spend $1000 minimum go to the Bahamas to watch the Bobcats play a Sun Belt team, all with 2 weeks notice over the holidays when they don't have anything else to do or already planned?
I'm not getting it.

I'd sure be more likely to put myself into debt going to the Bahamas in December than I be to go to Idaho in Decmber

I think this bowl needs some kind of guarantee if it's going to be successful and have fans actually be able to make it down there for the game. Something like Hawaii's guarantee with the Hawaii Bowl that they will play in that bowl if they are eligible and not selected for a BCS bowl.

There needs to be a rotational guarantee for both conferences. Every season, a team would be guaranteed to be selected for the bowl if they are eligible. That way fans of that team have plenty of time to make arrangements. If it's Toledo's year, their fans can pretty much book the travel at the start of the season. Even if the guaranteed team is 5-6 heading into the final game, fans would still have a couple extra weeks to prepare.

If it's your guaranteed year and you finish below .500, tough luck, you're still going to the bottom of the list. Better luck next time. The next team on the list would then be bumped up and play in the bowl.

You're absolutely delusional if you think there would be anything near 6,000 OU football fans who would book a short notice, $1500+ trip to the Bahamas to watch us play a non-bcs bowl.

But what if the school charters buses?

I don't have official numbers. I am going off the fans I saw at the game.

Dude, I saw you there. I wouldn't call your memory from that state reliable.

You don't think we had 500 fans in New Orleans?

It was a packed Bobcat Bash in New Orleans, but I was there 3 days and saw less than 10 Ohio fans in town other than at the game . All but 2 were band members or students. Way more in Chicago for the Northwestern game. Games scheduled months ahead do better for all fans.
