Not really but James Franklin, Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkisian, etc are being name dropped. I would bust out laughing at the Titans if Bama hires the freshly 5hit-canned Mike Vrabel. The guy's players loved him.

Name dropping on one of the biggest jobs in America is the dumbest thing. Nobody has any idea who they're interested in and it for sure isn't James Franklin.

+1

Most of Penn State is not interested in Franklin.

Bama will most likely hire someone with a lot of coaching experience.

I really wonder who they will find willing to take this job. Saban would be a tough act to follow to say the least. Can't help to think of what happened to Solich following Osborne's retirement.

Vrabel would be one hell of a college coach, but I think they hire someone with a lot of experience. Even Bill OB. College has changed so much, the idea anyone can just coach and recruit in the offseason is long gone. Always recruiting. Always being the GM.

My guess… Dabo. He’s sick of Clemson. Clemson might be sick of him.
My second guess… Lane Kiffin. He’s made for the job.
My third guess… Lanning. Oregon has deep pockets, but Bama is Bama.

Wild Card: Major Applewhite

If this is the speculation forum I will go with the following:

Favorite 1: Hard to argue Dabo
Favorite 2: Sarkisian (If he's sober he's more stable than Kiffin)
Wild Cards: Chadwell or Drinkwitz

I am curious if they will hire a coach and a GM. Seems like GM's would be the next step in the NIL/portal era to fully complete the transformation into pro football.

Kind of why Saban got out.

"In the meeting, Saban thanked his players for the way they bought in and told them that he'd thought out his decision carefully. But with the way college football has changed in terms of the transfer portal and tampering, NIL being used as a guise for bidding for high school players and transfers, and the recruiting calendar being extended, he told his players that the time was right for him to retire."… Sources told Low that Saban had grown increasingly frustrated with "what college football had turned into. He's all about team and building a team and developing players, and now the only thing that seems to matter is who can get what in the NIL and who can get the biggest deal."

No doubt some guy will want the prestige and cash that comes from coaching The Tide. There will never be another Saban! At least not at Alabama.

The big thing I will be watching here is what programs have coaching changes due to this domino, and who ultimately hits the transfer portal.....a lot of movement could happen that could ricochet into the G5 level and create some chaos.

Kinda why I think Dabo makes the most sense. Former player. NCAA champion. Probably already knows a ton of Bama boosters. Former players, coaches, board members, etc etc

Or someone like a Vrabel who has NFL clout, was a former player, is a known players coach, can talk the talk… He might be a little too “blue collar”, but three Super Bowl rings can buy you a lot of upfront respect.

Washington's Kalen DeBoer will be the next head coach at Alabama. Pete Thamel was the first to report.
