WOW! Three whole games! STO never did that!!!
And I'm really going to miss not seeing NIU, Kent, Buffalo & Akron. I wonder if the basketball schedule will feature Lake Erie teams, too. Looks like the MAC screwed itself royally with this deal. We need to sell the rights to our games to Fox.
To be fair, STO did 3 games in 2012, 5 in 2011, and 5 in 2010, so it isn't a big change. Their contracted minimum was 3 football telecasts, and I'd assume that has stayed the same. The commissioner seemed to indicate that expanding basketball coverage and other sport coverage was important to the deal. Basketball I can get behind, I really can't fathom why softball or volleyball telecasts would be anything to hold up negotiations (no disrespect to those teams, both are great, but they really aren't moving the meter on TV).
Honestly I thought they might do more football, given that they don't have the competing baseball broadcasts (and playoff scenarios) that STO did.
I did watch some of the preview show, and was pleasantly surprised by the production. It wasn't fabulous, but it was above what I'd anticipated, and I was surprised to see Dan Fronczak hosting (those of you in the Columbus area would recognize him from the WBNS sports operation). Thought he did a good job, the analysts left a bit to be desired. I'll be interested to see the game broadcasts when they roll around.
