Details released: Three football games to be shown on the network and all three feature Kent State.

Saturday, Oct. 5 Northern Illinois at Kent State, 3:30 pm ET
Saturday, Oct. 26 Buffalo at Kent State, 3:30 pm ET
Saturday, Nov. 2 Kent State at Akron, 3:30 pm ET

Also a MAC
preview show at 7 tonight. I believe this also can be seen on ESPN3, although blackout restrictions are noted.

The network is available on TWC 1311 (HD) and 311 in Ohio and on BCSN for those in the Toledo area.

The games also will be broadcast on networks in Indiana, Michigan, New York and Wisconsin.

WOW!  Three whole games!  STO never did that!!!

And I'm really going to miss not seeing NIU, Kent, Buffalo & Akron.  I wonder if the basketball schedule will feature Lake Erie teams, too.  Looks like the MAC screwed itself royally with this deal.  We need to sell the rights to our games to Fox.

Good to know. I'm moving next month and we're likely going with U-Verse (TWC not available, other option is Massillon Cable and it is horrendous, as that's what I'm stuck with right now)

To be fair, STO did 3 games in 2012, 5 in 2011, and 5 in 2010, so it isn't a big change. Their contracted minimum was 3 football telecasts, and I'd assume that has stayed the same. The commissioner seemed to indicate that expanding basketball coverage and other sport coverage was important to the deal. Basketball I can get behind, I really can't fathom why softball or volleyball telecasts would be anything to hold up negotiations (no disrespect to those teams, both are great, but they really aren't moving the meter on TV).

Honestly I thought they might do more football, given that they don't have the competing baseball broadcasts (and playoff scenarios) that STO did.

I did watch some of the preview show, and was pleasantly surprised by the production. It wasn't fabulous, but it was above what I'd anticipated, and I was surprised to see Dan Fronczak hosting (those of you in the Columbus area would recognize him from the WBNS sports operation). Thought he did a good job, the analysts left a bit to be desired. I'll be interested to see the game broadcasts when they roll around.

Just heard that TW is bringing back Steve Mix to do color on basketball broadcasts.  (JUST KIDDING.)

Seriously, I would like to see them retain Michael Reghi as the play by play guy for basketball, but I read on an earlier post that this isn't likely.  Any thoughts?

No clue. He did migrate from FOX Sports Ohio to STO, though, did he not?

The games are likely Kent State selections owing to the use of a TV production truck owned or leased by the university for predominantly sports productions. Has been a default choice for production of many MAC events.

Wish they had or would bid it out to another provider, unless Kent is providing at a discounted or FREE rate. Like so many 'junior' trucks, is often lacking in sufficient lens power ($$$) to provide a quality broadcast or look. Perfectly adequate for hoops games, if this is the same truck they have brought to Athens before.

Does it matter who will be announcing since nobody gets the channel and nobody will be watching.

Not gonna lie: I'll watch it. Or at least have it in the "fav" channel rotation on one of our 2-3 TVs

Isn't he freelance, by and large? If TWC pays him, he'll do it.

Right, I think that's the question - how seriously are they going to invest? That's why I thought seeing Fronzcak might be a positive sign.

Don't know how much of an additional investment Fronzcak might be.  He owns his own production company (Orange Wave) so he may already be under contract with TWC.

Only TW cable (not Internet-only) subscribers are guaranteed to get it.  It's available to cable systems outside TWC's footprint IF the system is willing to pay TWC's price.  Satellite subscribers within TWC's footprint -- including sports bars -- are SOL.
