I got the chance to watch some of North Texas' game vs. Idaho online tonight. If you thought they were going to be a pushover, think again. They're currently ahead 40-6...yes, 40-6...with 3 minutes left. And they have looked dominant. They have some serious athletes on both sides of the ball.

I know, I know...one game at a time! But, they have me a bit worried now.

I've pegged this one as a trap game.  Short week, right after L'ville, right before Terd.  It may be difficult to focus.

They better be focused or North Texas is going to kick em in the rear, very hard.

Dan McCarney is an excellent coach. His record v. Solich shows Solich has come out on top most the time so far.:
1998 - L 7-42
1999 - L 14-42
2000 - L 27-49
2001 - L 14-48
2002 - W 37-14
2003 - L 0-28

North Texas was 4-8 last year, but return 16 starters. They take their football seriously. Also, Marshall looked very strong against Miami. They are never a push over, but thank God we get them at home. This is a tougher schedule than many think. First things first, Louisville! Go OHIO!

is it really band day? crap.

I 'm a band geek, I'm all for band day, but I don't like having band day on our home opener. Band day is a good way to fill the stands, we don't need that help for the opener, especially the way things have been going the last few years. Plus, it means the visiting non conference opponent can't bring their band. I don't know if they have the funds to make the trip but North Texas has a top notch band, I would rather see them perform.

Band day should be relegated to the FCS game, imo.

Yep the High Schools bands take up all that seating and usually leave not long after halftime.  I agree should be on Austin Peay day...

North Texas ~ Band Day/Youth Day
Austin Peay ~ Parents Weekend
Central Michigan ~ Homecoming
Kent State ~ Bobcat Blackout
UMass ~ Senior Day

If the team that showed up in Louisville shows up Saturday night North Texas will beat Ohio by two scores. A few young guards have to grow up in a hurry. Here we are worrying about offensive line injuries.

I agree wholeheartedly.  This business of hey diddle diddle Blankenship up the middle isn't going to win many games.  This team has more holes in it than a block of Swiss cheese.  Get ready for a very long season.

OK., I'll say it.....HOWDY!

We of the Mean Green Nation were all watching and pulling for your team in green at U of Louisville.  Yall ran into a buzz saw somewhat like North Texas probably will when we go to the U of Georgia and play (between those darn hedges) in about 2 weeks.

Question:  How many bandsmen come to your Band Day promotions at OU each Fall?  Do yall have marching competitions in conjunction with it or do all your HS bands merely show for the game only?   It's a great promotion that would be a natural at UNT but we can't get our College of Music officials excited about doing one (or they wouldn't in the past). I once went to one at the Houston Astrodome when UH played there and there were 13,000 bandsmen in attendance.  I know Don Canham at Michigian used to have a very large Band Day back in the day.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Green Brigade will be making the trip and sounds like there would be no space for them if they did since yall have a sellout from all that I hear.  They did get honored as Bleacher Reports Best Damn College Marching Band in the Land couple years ago.   Our drum line has won several national awards, too.

Anyhow...here is a YouTube of our UNT marching band at a DFW Metroplex  competition of which they were the guest college marching band.  Enjoy!   And we hope for a great football game this Saturday.  Our football team is still a work in progress but it shows much promise.  Our Idaho win is not one to judge our team by, though, since the Vandals were not all that salty or good.   Anyhow, hope yall had a great Labor Day and hope all have a great Game Day this Saturday.

Hope the YouTube link below works but if not its listed in YouTube under this title in bold letters:

Can we get an official game thread up? The team was on the field tonight getting practice in. They're putting the last game behind them and preparing for the game ahead.

Can we do the same?

+1 on the Band Day comment.  Why not make Band Day the game when we have to play a D2 (or whatever it's now called) opponent?

Agree completely. Would have liked to see Band Day against Austin P. We should be able to fill the stands for the Home Opener without throwing high school kids into seats to lower capacity.

So many freshman want to go to the 1st game. Even the ones who don't like football and will never return.

I don't disagree with the sentiment on Band Day, I find it tedious and I'm sure the HS Bands aren't all thrilled with the day either.

However, this is one of those cases where the AD has to decide to stand by people who stood by him or go home with the pretty girl he just met, so to speak.  Those band directors have been making that opening day trip for decades - and bringing their Band parent's groups with them.  Moving them to a later game might be OK in the general sense but I doubt that we want them to feel like disposable or replaceable parts in a ticket scheme.

Still, with the move to semesters and the students (and band) all on campus already, this would have been the year to do it, wouldn't it?  It's a tough one.

While not intimately familiar with every band who is going to be coming most of them will be up to their shankos with the competition season much past the first two weeks of football season.

While some groups would make it work no matter when we host them, some would probably have to break a long tradition of being a part of this.

Personally I am glad we are honoring those who supported the event through thick and thin with our football program.
