Hello -- I know our game is still a couple of weeks away but I wanted to go ahead and reach out to you and say hello.  Our main fan site is gomeangreen.com and you are welcome to visit with our fans and learn more about our team  there.

I know this North Texas game is a game you will be expected to win, and rightfully so.  My feeling is we picked a bad year to play you guys and Ball State as both of you should have good seasons with the players you have coming back.

We are heading into the third year under Dan McCarney and while he hasn't lit up the win column, he has done a nice job in terms of rebuilding the program.  He has recruited primarily high school players and redshirted most of them.   This is the first year since he has been here that we will be at the full scholarship allotment.

The truth is I don't know how good we will be until after our Idaho opener in a week.  Mac believes in a smash mouth run the ball and don't turn it over offense and we should have a pretty salty defense unlike the last time we played you guys in Denton.

Speaking of which, did any of you guys make that monsoon game in Denton back in 2009 - it was a heartbreaking double overtime loss in the worst rainstorm I can remember seeing in Fouts.  Great victory for the Bobcats on that day.  Here's hoping for another good game this time around! Looking forward to it.

That game made Ohio's season IMO. If the Bobcats lose that one, they go to 0-2 and have Cal Poly, at Tennessee and at Bowling Green as the next three games. Could have possibly started the year 1-4, instead, Ohio started out at 3-2. That 2 point conversion to win it was HUGE.

As far as I see it, that 2-point conversion directly led to the success that Ohio has had, not just the 9 wins in '09, but since...

Question for meangreenfan: What's the UNT fans' opinion of Todd Dodge, the coach from '09? I heard he got fired midway through 2010...

I made that trip. It was raining when we got to Texas and it was raining when we flew out of Love field in Dallas after the game. .As I recall Parkersburg airport was fogged in so we had to land in Pittsburgh. The time was about 6 AM and the team was hungry so everyone lined up at the airport McDonalds. About an hour or two later we were clear to land at Huntington. Then we bused back to Athens.
We had a great pre gamer. Dallas area alumni put on a great bash.
My most memorable moment was Kenny Jackson's interception and return for a touchdown. That ignited our comeback.

Any chance North Texas's band is making the trip? Unless things have changed their band is very very good.

Dodge was probably the worst coaching hire made in the history of the program..

A very classy, nice man that just wasn't cut out for college football.... I supported the hire at the time because we weren't paying much and it seemed like the best bang for you buck.  Dodge was sort of a football god in Texas at the time having won like 4 back to back 5A State Championships.  He had guys like then Cowboy Coach Bill Parcells singing his praises and had been an assistant at UNT before so it seemed like a great hire at the time.  He is now a head coach at Marble Falls a small but rich high school in Texas.

After 4 years of losing the UNT Regents upped the ante, came up with the bucks to hire consultant Chuck Neinas who recommended Dan McCarney for the rebuilding job.  UNT has changed a lot since our last meeting.  We have a beautiful new stadium, have invested more in our coaches and assistants than ever before.  Our athletic budget is going to be over 30 million dollars this coming year if approved...in 2011 we were at 19 million..

There is a realization among the leadership at UNT that in a State like Texas you can have a great education at a low cost but still get overlooked if your athletics suck... so whether or not that plays out remains to be seen but it won't be because of facilities or financial support...

On another note, I am hearing that our game with you may be a sellout?  Can anyone confirm this for me?

I am not sure about our band coming -- I will have to check.  I would doubt it because it is such a long trip but who knows.  It is a great band and one of the best in the nation in my opinion.

It very well could sell out. Last year, a week after the Penn State win, we had the highest attendance in school history, and we were only playing New Mexico State. No doubt it's a sellout if we beat Louisville. Even if we lose, we have drawn close to capacity for home openers each of the last four years. It will also be band day, so several high school bands will eat up a lot of seats.

Hey guys -- it's game week.  I've linked our site to here, feel free to visit us at http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums to learn more about the Mean Green and talk about the game...

This looks like it could be a good one.. of course much respect for Ohio in our parts.  We know that that will be a major challenge for us to win this on the road.  The Solich McCarney ties are very very strong from when they were both assistants...

Judging from our pathetic performance today you guys should be 14 point favorites going into the game.

Don't say that bro -- that Louisville team is LOADED...probably a top 10 team or better before all is said and done.  Many of us watched the game and have nothing but respect for your team.  You do owe us one after that monsoon game you took along with many of our hearts...I am still haunted by that loss lol!
