If yesterdays any indication of who will be named tomorrow, it may be the "little" bobcat instead of the "big" one!
Amicon(5'7" 175) was kicking the stuffing outta the pigskin going 6 for 6, had two K/Offs inside the 5 and one at the goalline, "Big Country", Green(6'3" 215)
and Yazdani were 4 for 6 and kicked well in k/offs but were all over the place.
Solich's interview Monday and inside the lockerroom mentioned Coach will probably name one of the three till Wednesday and that even tho Green has displayed alittle longer leg.....he was still looking for "consistency" and that the guys having been "charted" everyday for the last three weeks.
Charts "should" show that Amicone has the best #'s but a groin injury acc.to Solich set him back a couple days on K/offs.Yazdani is somewhere in the mix but it will prob be the long and the short of it going to #9 Louisville Sunday. Whoever it is.....large shoes to fill as Weller's replacement.

Wonder if there's a chance that we'll see situational kickers, i.e. long FG vs. short FG or kick-off vs. FG specialist.  I know we've done that in the past as have many other teams and it always struck me as maybe putting too fine a point on the kicking game.

Could it be that it's used because a team is flush with talent at that position and they just want those kids to see the field?

This is very possible. The kicker needs power and accuracy, and sometimes that comes in two different packages. The guy that can kick-off into the end zone every time sometimes doesn't have the accuracy of the finesse kicker who can hit most any FG but can't get the power for the touchback kickoff.

The importance of a good kicker cannot be overlooked. I know Frank will not let this happen. The Special Teams units need to take a step up this year. With the exception of Weller, I would generally look away from the TV and hope something bad didn't happen.

Looks like the other "Matt"(Amicone) should get the proverbial nod vs. the Cowboy Crew from North Texas State. "Matt" Green was not the "side of the coin" on Sunday that Coach Haines thought he'd be. And "Yaz" was low, short and wide on his 2nd half K/O.... None of the 3 have been able to show much during the pre-season sessions that I attended but Green's certainly not cut outta the "Matt" Weller mode of the last four years. Green may be living up to his High School days as "Big Country" on Court Street but the consistent "Matt" acc. to charting insiders, may be the "Lil" Country that the Bobcats need on Solich's special teams unit.
Weller left big shoes to fill....just because Green is a tall drink of water as Clint Eastwood would say(6'2" 215lbs) doesn't mean he wears the same size. IMO,this fan thinks it maybe the time to see if Amicone (5'7" 173 lbs) can slide into them. SIZE doesn't matter (for a kicker)just consistency....hey,that's my Viagra testimony as well , and I'm stickin to that too!

We had four kickers going into camp with Syracuse transfer Ryan Lichtenstein but he was lost for the season with an injury. He had a nice freshman year in 2009 which included a game winner that earned him Big East Special Teams player of the week. Ironically he made a 42 yard kick at Louisville.

I did notice Green's XP was very solid. I think he just overcompensated on the last kick pushing right after the hook.

I'm not sure the best solution here is to immediately "find a replacement." From what I've seen of Green, he is a good kicker. One bad day is not enough to write him off. If you do, then his replacement will also have a "bad day" at some point, and the trend will continue. The coaching staff has to show more resilience than that--and I'm sure they will.

Punting--not so good.

Field goal kicking--not good.

Must solve.

rumor from the lockerroom after yesterdays sessions ......looks like Green again for North Texas and Amicone side-lined for the next week with severe groin injury. Even at that spot the injury "bug-bites-the Bobcats" AGAIN !
Prayers for a quick therapy for "Lil-Country", we're gonna need him if the "Big'n"has another outing like last Sat. Still looking for Consistancy acc. to Solich !
