...More to the point, I gotta think that Coach loves it at OHIO. He can build a very fine program without what I'm sure he views as pretty much a nuisance, unnecessary: intense fan and media scrutiny.
Put another way, what could any other school provide that would be better and more satisfying for Coach than what he now has at OHIO?!
Let's put it another way. There are lots of things that we, as individuals could value. Here are a few, and I'm sure there are many others you could add to this list:
1. Being appreciated
2. Not being constantly second guessed
3. Being well paid
4. A feeling of accomplishment
5. Job security
6. Enjoying the community you live in
He's much more appreciated at Ohio. He's rarely second guessed at Ohio, but it was constant at Nebraska. He was better paid at Nebraska. I think he has more feeling of accomplishment building something than trying to maintain something. He has much more job security at Ohio. As for number 6, I have no idea. Thus, most of the factors other than money point to a preference for Ohio. I doubt money is his prime motivation at this stage of his life, so I'd think he's at Ohio for the rest of his career.
More than that, though - look at his assistants. Coaches like Dixon or Collins have been in much more prestigious positions than Ohio. Why do they stay at Ohio? I think it's the same reasons. They are respected here, and not attacked here, and they have great job security, and adequate pay to have a good standard of living. They could take some other position, but, with the coaching merry-go-round, they might be back out of a job in a couple years.
The bottom line is that some school's fans think they are great fans, but Ohio's fans really are great fans. Because they are, and they are rewarded with great stability in the coaching staff in a conference where there is rarely much coaching stability at all.
Speaking of Pelini, I found this
video of a recent prank of his a bit odd.
