Just as with Eastern Illinois last week, It would look really bad for the conference if NIU loses to Purdue.  Eastern Illinois may be about as good as Purdue.  The only difference is that NIU has to travel to Purdue.

Assuming NIU holds on today they have a good chance of winning out and then going to a bcs bowl and possible a national title

They've just downed two big ten schools, they certainly have a case if they win out

NIU will definitely have a BCS shot, but not a NCG

I agree, NIU if they win out goes to a BCS Bowl, that said without a MAC Title they won't.

They beat two Big Ten Teams but two lower division Big Ten teams.  If they had beaten the best two Big Ten teams and ran the table they might have had an outside shot at the NC game if everything broke just right for them.  As it is there is no way.  Beating Purdue and Iowa may look no better in the end than beating Marshall and North Texas. All four will probably have rankings rankings from about 55-85 in the end.

After last year, I would be shocked if they get enough votes to go to a BCS game again.

Down 7 to a great Florida State team going into the 4th? The people who said it was a blowout only said that because that's what they wanted. If you watched that game, you know they only won by 3 scores after NIU was picked on a wild play that could have easily been a play that made it 24-21

If NIU wins out, they'll likely get to a BCS bowl.  They got to Orange last year with a loss to Iowa ("Iowa!!!").  This year they're unbeaten OOC including probably the worst beating a MAC school has ever given a Big Tenfinity school.  If they're 13-0 in December, they should be in the top 16.  But if they lose to any MAC school, even in the championship game, they'll be sunk.  No one wants to hear another Herbie rant ("They lost to Ohio, for God's sake!).

I watched the whole game. I agree they were in it in the 2nd half, but the perception was they shouldnt have been there (Herbstreit, ESPN and just about all national media) and the perception was they got blown out. And the perception was it was a mistake sending them. I dont agree with it but that was the consensus.

Maybe this year our own idiot MAC coaches will help them with the votes.

One of the conditions for a non-AQ school to get a guaranteed invite to a BCS bowl, in addition to having the requisite ranking, is that they be the conference champion. If NIU were to lose the MAC title game but happened to finish the season fanked #5 (not sure how that would happen, but bear with me), they'd be as likely (more likely) to go to a MAC-tied in bowl game as they would be to go to a BCS game

Keep in mind that for NIU to make a BCS bowl they would have to be either top 12 or top 16 and ranked higher than an AQ champion. They made it last year only because the B1G and Big East didn't have champs ranked higher than NIU, who barely squeaked into the top 16 after beating Kent.

Barring a meltdown by osu or an upset in the B1G championship, that isn't likely this year, so NIU would have to be top 12 AND ranked higher than any other non-AQ (and Fresno State is currently ranked higher than NIU).

Those non-BCS pills get easier to swallow once its been done before. If Boise State had snuck into a BCS game the same way I don't think the uproar is quite so loud. MAC play hasn't started for NIU so any talk of a BCS bowl is premature. Wait and see how they look after a couple of physical MAC games.

They'll need every ounce their offense can give them, because their defense really sucks.  Lots of missed tackles vs PU yesterday.  Archer & Durham ought to rack up lots of yards & points against them next week.  It may wind up being a 50-49 game.  If they beat Kent next week they should have it easy (Akron, CMU, Umass & EMU) until they get Toledo & BSU in late November.

They had backups in at the start of the second half though
