Bama asked to be let out of a home & home contract because of the uncertainties of the schedule due to the SEC possibly moving to nine conference games, and MSU agreed, according to the AP.  Maybe an opportunity there for a MAC team.

Where did you see that?  The B1G announced earlier this year that starting in about that time frame they would no longer schedule FCS teams.   I've heard nothing about any similar move with MAC schools or any other non-AQ FBS leagues.  I did see speculation that there might be a few less MAC v. B1G games as the B1G moves toward one more league game a year, but there will still be MAC vs. B1G football games into the foreseeable future as far as I can tell.

From our perspective we'd love to play them.  My only concern is that an Ohio v. Michigan State matchup might make our friends located in Columbus and Ann Arbor heads explode in complete confusion.

They announced back in February no more FCS games.  I suspect that with 9 conference games most B1G schools will play at least 1 non-AQ a year and sometimes 2 to make sure they play 7 home games.  I suspect we will still see around 6 or 7 B1G v MAC games a year.

Greg Ianni is a very senior member of the Mich St. Athletic Administration.  He spent many, many years here.  His employment here was used to springboard to Mich St.  Greg Ianni should get us on the schedule.  Is anyone aware if he has ever reached back to Ohio?

You know, I could really see this making a lot of sense for both Ohio and Michigan State.

Also, a home and home here would fit perfectly in with our home and hone series with Kansas and Cincinnati.

We go there first then we bring them back to open our renovated stadium.

...

Also, I think we hold off on calling them Michigan until the week before the game. That will be a great publicity generator nationally to get eyeballs on the game.

Well, since they're Michigan State and don't seem to be as confused as their cohorts in Ann Arbor, I don't think we need to pull out the Michigan card... now, we are full within our rights to refer to Michigan as Michigan State, however.

Also, I would prefer we go to MSU twice to help balance the books. We can beat them - no doubt we could at least grab a split in that series.  Money is good and unfortunately a return game wouldn't generate the kind of revenue we need.

I do not see this happening.  Can anyone list the OCC games that have been scheduled under the Schaus administration?  Money games do not appear to be his thing.

No, but I hear he's looking for the whereabouts of you and SBH and a certain oversized Paw flag that used to hang from the hanging spearkers at midcourt at the Convo.

You got the wrong two guys - talk to V

Ianni and I did get into it as part of my interview for the Sports Ad program.  Felt it was my fault the Crazy Cats were a bit too crazy.  Ignored the fact Nee came over and implored the club to get all over the opposing team. "Well you should have stepped in."  yea, "hey everyone, please ignore the coach."  That was truly his argument.  I think he owes me an apology.  But I'll call it even if he helps bring the Spartans to the Convo and gets us a money game in East Lansing.

I always thought Ianni was a dick.  And the statute of limitations on that Youngstown-based flag passed in 1991.

I may have just been mistaking Ohio State with the B1G. I think they and Michigan are done with the MAC after further thought

This is awesome. At one point SBH enjoyed destroying lawns as much as I do now.

cc cat also deserves praise. Any time students are too "crazy" for the administration they are doing something right.

We have the resources to get the people going in Peden.

When I'm thinking a Michigan State vs. Ohio home football series the first thought that pops into my head is one game in Lansing and one game in Cleveland at a neutral site for a 7th "home" football game in that season. Playing up in Cleveland every year would burn out Ohio fans but once every 4-5 years is manageable. The scheduling formula has been a money game every year on the road at a BCS school. More of a mix of money games, 1 for 1 series and 1 for neutral site is a little something for everyone. Scheduling beyond 2015 is a total question mark. Only two series are signed beyond that with Kansas 1 for 1 and UC. The UC series was signed under the pretext of having a BCS team play in Athens. UC is no longer a BCS team starting next year so Ohio will have to find a real BCS school in those years to add to the schedule.

I only recall one Bobcats vs Spartans event in my life.

Spring break - 1978 - some bar in Ft Lauderdale. Massive party bar w/"Teams" from prolly 25+ universities. Drinking game (Of Course!) round robin type tournament. OU/MSU make to the "Championship" (Yes - I was on The OU team). We won! I don't think I got outta my hotel bed the entire next day..............

It was cool though that we were both "Green & White". And that we both hated another school from the same state we were from, with the same state name in the name of the university we were from. I remember at one point we chanted in unison "Wolverines Suck" and "Buckeyes Suck" (both of which had teams that were eliminated pretty early on the tourney) - all the other schools students in the bar joined in the chants vs MU and O$U - it was awesome. I feel really old now......................

We wasted our money game this year by paying an FCS school to come to Athens.

An O H I O home game in Cleveland every year is ideal.  Will boost fandom and recruiting.

The thought that this would 'exhaust' fans (ours?) doesn't seem to hold water.  A good opponent vs. strong Bobcat teams coached by Coach--all that does is feed the huge appetite for college football.

Ya think TV would like OHIO vs VTech or Florida or Texas or SC (why not?!)?

I'm judging more from the amount of fans OHIO brought to the MAC final which was in the 6,000 range. If we have the fan support we think we have the arena should have been filled to capacity with 12,000+ bobcats fans if that is what it takes to fill it. That is why I don't think OHIO could get the 20,000 required to make a game a success every year in Cleveland. OHIO schedules out 6 years and I could see a series working 1 for 1 with a VTech or Arkansas type BCS program that could use the publicity of an ESPN game in Cleveland. In 6 years have a 1 for 1 in Cleveland, a 1 for 1 that brings a school like Kansas to Peden and then 2 money games at high profile opponents. That is the mix I would like to see for the annual BCS game. For the other OOC games keep Marshall and FCS. Here is an idea though, why doesn't Ohio try to play a MWC school for the 4th non-conference game? MWC schools have a lot of tradition. There is less of a recruiting impact if you lose to them since the Bobcats don't recruit out West anyways. MWC cities offer interesting destinations for Bobcat fans and recruits. The problem I see if Ohio goes out and signs a s school like Georgia Southern or Georgia State if Ohio loses that would be like a disastrous FCS loss. No more SBC teams on the schedule (except Idaho, NMSU) and I don't want to see a CUSA team on there outside of Marshall.
