That's a very nice and well written article, and it tells me a lot of things I didn't know. I kind of wished it mentioned one thing that I did know, and that's the story of how Oulette came to have the #45 number in the first place. What I heard is that it wasn't one of the numbers he requested. When he asked why he got it, the equipment manager explained that it was Coach Solich's number, and that Solich had insisted on the number being given to Oulette.

I've always believed it was Solich who kept benching guys after their fumbles in the Kent game. The fact that it was Albin who called AJ's number makes me like him all the more.

AJ was my next door neighbor my last couple of years in college. As Albin stated in this article, I never saw any signs of a drop of alcohol going into that apartment or any of them going out at night, which is very much the opposite of what was going on one door over most nights.

That’s a great story. Even if he didn’t make the pros his experience would have helped him succeed at life. Sports teach a lesson.

I agree, I thought it was Coach Solich who kept pulling those backs who were fumbling. That was so much fun being there watching an unknown freshman lead us to the win.

I agree, I thought it was Coach Solich who kept pulling those backs who were fumbling. That was so much fun being there watching an unknown freshman lead us to the win.
I remember my wife, two boys and I walking into Dix Stadium well before the start of the game and seeing this not very well known (to us) player, with much of his game gear already on, talking with several people standing near one of the main entrances outside the stadium. I remember at the time thinking I don’t know much about this guy but he is not unfamiliar with the weight room. Not sure I have ever seen a similar interaction with others in such a setting, pre game, before or since. When AJ began to impact the game we began to realize that was the guy out front! A truly great Bobcat. Glad he ended up in Athens.

I remember being at several games, when the third quarter ended, and guys start putting their hand in the air…a lot of them would all just look at him. Legend.

He was awarded a scholarship before his first game as a Bobcat, and played in that first game, for the final drive (after a fumble by Edmonds, two by Patterson, and one by Dorian Brown).

I’ll never forget AJ’s last college game (?) in the Frisco bowl. I stood in the rain with AJ’s dad the whole second half and he pretty much told me what the plays would be, before they happened. That dude knew football. Everything was going okay and OU was driving for another touchdown when AJ fumbled. I think it was his first of the season but I’m not sure about that. His Dad was so disappointed as you can imagine.
