Lots of good information in this piece, especially the differences between sports and P5 versus mid major.

Excellent read, and it’s definitely not all sunshine and roses that one or two seem to think it’s going to be.

"A lot of the information around the case is still speculation.

That process is expected to take several months with hopes of everything being cleared by the fall of 2025.

Until then there are more questions than answers."

And of course, the judge still has to rule.

Collective Bargaining also is going to be worked in.

We are still only in the 3rd inning of the NIL transformation of athletics.

The Non-P5 conferences were always regarded as the Ugly Step-Sisters of the collegiate world. With this settlement/NIL/Portal the NEW landscape the UGLY sisters are soon to become Butt-Uglier!! I fail to see how any of this NEW reality is to any advantage to the OHIO’s of the world! As the over whelming majority of the “lesser” conferences were already operating at a loss, even when largely supported by “student” athletics fees, whom by the way stay away from said athletic events in droves, wasn’t sustainable then, what makes one think this new “normal” will be some financial panacea now?

I'm not one of those. I think all of college athletics is just at the beginning of the Age of Lawfare. One law suit that's sure to come before long is female sports teams demanding equal pay with boys on the football team.

There's an awful lot of legal precedent about this exact thing. That's a much easier issue if players do end up at employees than it's been for the NCAA currently.

It’s one thing if men’s football and hoops are the only ones making money, as in the P5. But what if all sports lose money? Everyone should get the same.

Which I guess should be nothing. These are all losing enterprises so why is anyone getting paid what they are now? Just asking? (Including coaches here too)

Students at most -G-5 schools and below have been financially supporting collegiate sports for decades. It’s really a broken model. At our level, how much exposure do we get for our bucks? Do the students care about many of the sports? Check the attendance at many events to answer that one.

I’m really just venting right now because I’m an old curmudgeon and don’t like change.

Easier for the NCAA, for the institution it’s a back breaker
