I'm curious. Do people believe that Wiglusz would be in this position, had he remained a walkon at Ohio State? I find myself wondering whether players have a better chance at the NFL by staying at Ohio, where they will start, and be able to show what they can do, or by transferring up to P5, where they may end up battling for playing time? A large number of Ohio players did manage to move up to P5 this year. It will be interesting to see how many of them start.

I get this idea in theory, but the reality is that OHIO has not had success with wide receivers at the NFL level, so I don't know that anyone would choose OHIO based on thoughts of an NFL future. We have had as many QBs play in a receiver role at the NFL level (Phil Bates and Armani Rogers) as we have had WRs (LaVon Brazill and Taylor Price) this century. Our total university production from the WR/TE level in the NFL this century is only 33 receptions for 491 yards (primarily from Brazill).

Hopefully, Wiglusz adds some substantial numbers to those totals. The Rams have worked miracles with receivers in the past, it would be great if he's the next success story.

I wonder what would of happened to Shane Hooks if he stayed. Look at his journey.

Ohio
2019 - 26rec, 515 yards, 5TDs
2020 - 8rec, 120 yards, 1TD

Jackson State
2021 - 16rec, 199 yards, 2TDs
2022 - 66rec, 775 yards, 10TDs

Auburn
2023 - 10rec, 144 yards, 2TDs

Went undrafted, unsigned and no rookie camp invite...I'm sure he enjoyed that NIL money along the way.

No contract but got a tryout at rookie mini-camp with the Chiefs.

I would say undoubtedly helped himself by being productive at Ohio. He didn't test very well in workouts. He would have been passed over as a below average NFL athlete for the position, who never played in college.

Here's a look at his athletic testing numbers. His relative athletic score is only 2.87 out of 10. A poor overall athlete by NFL standards with average quickness and agility.

My question wasn't tied specifically to the WR position. If I get into more detail about the kinds of things I'm wondering about:
1. Will a player improve more by getting coaching from a higher paid assistant coach at a P5 school, or by playing more at a G5 school?
2. Is a player more apt to be noticed by putting up great numbers in G5, or with lesser numbers in P5, though against stronger competition?
3. What percentage of players who move up to P5 from G5 via the portal will end up as starters at P5, what percentage will be regular players, and what percentage will end up providing depth?

After a few more years of portal activity, we will be able to answer the questions more accurately.

Probably not. A lot of talent gets wasted at schools like O$U. Look at Joe Burrow. Got a butt full of splinters from sitting the pine in Columbus then went to LSU and won the Heisman and was a first-rounder. If Wigs had stayed in Columbus he might've impressed some scouts with his tryout but he wouldn't have had the stats he piled up at Ohio, or the game highlights to go with them. That probably made the difference for getting a look from the Rams.

Not counting him out, just stating the facts. For every Renfrow, there's a hundred similar who never made it. I hope he does. He has a shot but it's a long one.

Impressing on special teams is probably the only way he gets a foot in the door and makes an NFL team or practice squad.

The Rams' rookie camp was last week and Wigs is still on their roster. That's a positive.
