The offense on the other hand has seemed to be struggling a lot more than the defense. I don’t know if it is taking time for them to learn the new concepts with Brian Smith being the offensive coordinator now or not.
I mean... that is news? Right? When did that happen? Scott is still listed as OC on the roster.
That's news to me too. They have updated Andre Allen as WR coach and they had not for quite a while after it was first mentioned on this board. Sounds like he knows what he is talking about on a lot of this stuff. I am almost positive that Nowinsky, Isphording, and Rudolph were the first coaches listed after Albin last year and now Smith is second and listed now as "Associate Head Coach" but also still as "Running Backs Coach and Passing Game Coordinator".
I do think that we were unbelievably predictable on 2nd and 3rd down last year from what I am sure is my own naive, simplified standpoint of play calling mostly based on if we ran or passed. 3rd down is pretty predictable for a lot of teams. But 2nd down for us, unless we we way ahead or in hurry up mode was glaring obviously very predominately the opposite of what we did on 1st down. I think our internal scouting of our own play calling patterns was possibly pretty awful. I don't know who had that responsibility. I suspect that it fell on Isphording and also Rudolph and given how surprising dominant our defense was and that we had returned everyone from a dominant offense in 2022 it is easy to think, and I know compared to FBS coaches I am incredibly naive of such matters, that predictive play calling might have cost us the MAC East and a school record win total. Maybe Albin thinks the same thing.
