If you’ve never seen The University of Akron’s $61.6 million InfoCision Stadium completed in 2009, you should check it out. Beautiful facility. You can really get a good look at the stadium during this Homecoming halftime performance by their marching "OHIO PRIDE" band in 2012: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC71hct1IEg  because there are virtually NO fans in the seats! The saying in Akron is, “If you build it, they can’t tear it down for twenty or thirty years. Sad really.

According to this, they got about 1/4 of the money from naming rights for the stadium and the field, although frankly I've never heard the name "Summa Field" so I'm not sure if Summa is getting their $5 million worth.  It doesn't say if the $15 million came all at once or was spread over several years.  The Rubber Bowl really was an eyesore and needed to be replaced.  But now they need to put as much emphasis on recruiting good football players as they do on recruiting for soccer and b-ball.

Summa is not a sponsor... it's just Italian (e.g.  "Thatsa summa field!)

I got the thinking, being located in a city and wanting to create a campus that students actually want to stay on weekends. But they took about two too many pieces of chicken on that trip to the buffet. It's destined to be a white elephant for a long time.
