Couple of questions I have:

Does stress have something to do with these seizures? Before the Iowa game, Minnesota did look fairly decent this year, and it is the Big Ten he's coaching in...

Also, as good a football coach as he was at Southern Illinois, then NIU, who knows, maybe without this problem he would be the right guy for the Gophers. But at what point do you say enough is enough?

According to this, stress alone can trigger seizures, and they can be triggered by anxiety and sleep loss brought on by stress. 

I think his situation would be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  "Disability" is defined broadly and includes conditions that are perceived by others to be a disability.  If the ADA or a similar state law applies, then UMinn would need to make a "reasonable accommodation" for him.  That might mean allowing him to miss a game once in a while.  But he doesn't seem to be the type that would accept that situation for very long, either.

Yes, I think that's correct.  I don't see a legal battle here either.  This ain't O$U.

So is this anecdotal evidence that the pressures and resulting stress increases as you move up the coaching ranks, from FCS/FBS to mid major(MAC) to BCS level programs?

He needs to step down as head coach. This is a terrible situation but for the greater good of his health and the UM football program it has to happen. The University would take a PR hit if they fired him. Allow his to step down gracefully and perhaps take on a role in the departments administration.

From the press release, it sounds like the leave of Absence is Kill's idea, and not something asked for by Minnesota. In the end I think either Kill will decide to retire, or come back and just do the best he can with the seizures. Similarly, so long as the team does well, I don't see Minnesota making a move to change coaches, but if the team falters, then they might.
