TWO MOTEL ROOMS FOR HOMECOMING WEEKEND HAVE BECOME AVAILABLE!
Originally my son and I had booked two rooms for both Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12 for our families for Homecoming. However, he now has to be on an early flight for work from Cleveland on Saturday morning. Therefore, I am offering two rooms, each with two beds, at the Hometown Inn (www.hometowninnathens.com) for both Friday and Saturday nights. The rooms cost about $170/night each, including taxes. The motel is just south of Athens, about two minutes, on Rt. 50 w. In summary, I am offering TWO separate rooms at Hometown Inn for both Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11 and 12, for the actual cost. First come, first served. Please email me at: jlorek@roadrunner.com or call the motel directly and mention these were the rooms I am giving up. 740-594-2294.

Do we need any further proof of the impact of Ohio football program on the local economy?  The Hometown Inn charging $170/night for a football weekend (Homecoming).  This is one of the lowest-end local lodging establishments.  Just out of curiosity, can anyone tell me what the Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express charges for this same weekend?

I have seen people posting rooms available elsewhere with the Days Inn @ $150/night and the Baymont Inn $199/night (both do not include taxes).

FYI - I think they have already found people to take these

I stayed at a b&b last year for around $85 - was totally worth it - cheap cab ride from uptown. I forget what it's called, but it was available like a month before homecoming.

It was clean but not fancy or roomy, but it was exactly what we needed and nothing more.

This is specifically one of the reasons I questioned having the Miami game on the same weekend as Halloween. Spread out, this could have been two big weekends for the local economy.

Stunter you are totally on the mark. It's a shame the Miami game is Halloween weekend.

I'd rather stay at the Hometown than Hampton or Holiday. On non-event weekends, it's a great value.

I think the tune about the Halloween game will change if we get to 6-1 (we should) playing our archrival on our school's most famous weekend. That is going to be an atmosphere on campus we've never seen before.

I don't disagree that the atmosphere will be electric, but we shouldn't have to need a Halloween weekend to make it electric when you have a good football team and an archrival coming in.

Plus, we're likely to see even more of an exodus at halftime because students will want to "get ready" for Court Street.
