How fitting is it that on the day that we can bring our All-Time record back to .500, it's also homecoming? Wow, give us alums another reason to have a good time back in Athens? Like we really needed it.

The database at Stassen.com simply uses the Ohio version of the records, but is missing a win in 1897. It doesn't have game by game results for games that old, so it doesn't really reveal what game/games, if any, are disputed.

The database at CFB Datawarehouse uses records from a number of sources, and thus it reveals places where there are actual disputes about what games were played, and who won.

There are lots of games where the scores are in dispute, but these are the only ones where the actual game outcome is disputed, or it is disputed whether there was a game at all:
Versus Marrietta College - Ohio shows a single loss in 1896, and a single loss in 1902. Marrietta claims there were 2 games each year, and that they won all of them. The two disputed games are:
11-13-1896 - CFB Warehouse shows loss to Mariatta College in Athens, 22-6. Ohio does not show this game
11-01-1902 versus Marietta - CFB shows 22-0 loss in Athens (plus later 50-0 loss), Ohio shows only the 2d game
Here is a link to the Marietta Media Guide. Their historical records are at page 59.

Versus Cincinnati - Ohio and Cincinnati both record the 1898 game as a 12-12 Tie. CFB Datawarehouse shows it as a 0-12 loss, so I would say this is just a clear error on their part. There is no dispute.

Versus Wittenburg - Ohio claims that the game in 1900 ended in a 5-5 tie. Wittenburg claims they won 0-6. Here is a link to Wittenburg's Records. See page 28. This game is disputed.

Versus Transylvania - CFB shows a loss 0-16 in 1915. Ohio claims a 5-0 win. Since Transylvania no longer plays football, I can't find their records online. I don't know if this is a dispute, or an error.

Versus West Virginia Wesleyan - CFB Warehouse shows a loss on 11-26-1903 to them by they score of 15-7, but has a note that this may have been an Ohio JV team. I can't find old WV Wesleyan records online, so I don't know if this game is disputed or not.

Versus Ohio Deaf Mute Institute - 1901 game is reported to be a 0-34 loss. Ohio shows no game. I can't find their records online, but I did find data on this game at another site, so this game appears to be disputed.

So? Is this game really for .500? I don't know. All of the above disputes would have to be resolved in Ohio's favor for it to be for .500. On the other hand, by the end of this year, Ohio will surely be above .500 regardless.

Nice summary, L.C.  Kinda makes me wonder if there is some confusion with the junior institution in Columbus in some of those cases.

Hard to know. I'm sure someone could research newspapers from the time, and figure it out. The ones with Marietta seem like their records may be right, given that the games have specific dates, and that the location was listed as Athens, Ohio. Of course, those game might have also have been Ohio JV versus Marietta JV.

So you're telling me that Ohio once possibly lost to Ohio Deaf Mute Institute?

I'd wanna delete that from the record books as well, haha.

Ohio did beat the Deaf and Dumb Institute, which I presume is the same place, in 1897 by the score of 36-6, and again in 1907 by the score of 47-0. That much we know for sure.

Since I had season tickets in 1896, I can resolve this schedule dilemma from first hand knowledge . . . we'll almost but not quite . . . seriously, I did some research back in my student days reading dusty old microfilm in the university library and comparing what I found with then official university records, and here's what I discovered about that season:

A thought occurs to me that perhaps the second game against Marietta was at Cambridge, and perhaps that explains the lack of a score.

Very interesting. A year ago you sent me your college paper, which shows the record as 5-2-1. Note that the list you just posted shows also a record of 5-2-1, but only has 4 wins. The official Ohio record for that year is 4-2-1. The CFB data shows a record of 4-3-1, because it includes another loss to Marrietta. So, is it 5-2-1? 4-2-1? 4-3-1? Or, maybe even 5-3-1?

The second Marietta game was supposedly after the Portsmouth game, by the way, not where the Cambridge game is listed.

Isn't the Cambridge game after the Portsmouth game in my list?

Edit: Since the record 5-2-1 came from what was the Ohio official records at that time, I assumed that whatever it was it was a win for Ohio.

Sorry, I meant that the Marrietta game was supposedly after the Dennison game, and not after the Portsmouth game.

I hereby make my demand for the homecomer CMU game.  I'm sorry.  It's just the way I am.  And, who I think that we are.  So:

D allows single digit or zero points.

since the Lville game Ohio has been behind on the scoreboard for a total of 3m18s when they were down 3-2 to Akron in the first quarter. Let's continue the trend.

And by the way, Monroe, thanks for bringing this thread back into the 21st century.  Now it's time to destroy that blasted DeLorean.

Can the first post get updated with the TV info? The game will be on the Time Warner Sports Channel at 2pm.

I'm bummed I won't be able to make the trip to Athens today. I don't have Time Warner, I have WOW :( The blackout menu for WatchESPN shows Columbus in the blackout. I'm holding out some hope that the blackout would only apply to Time Warner folks that can actually see the game on TV, but I doubt that is the case.

Well, we still have Russ and Rob.

Well this really stinks. Not only does the MAC sign this silly Time Warner deal but now it's going to prohibit most of the state of Ohio (just checked the blackout map) from watching the game on ESPN3.

I'm planning to use firstrow if I can't get it on ESPN3, even though it's a pain wading through their popups.  And yes I know they might be pirating from ESPN but if Disney's worldwide legion of lawyers can't (or won't) make them stop, too damn bad.  Disney sucks, anyway.

Pointed this out to Jeremy Guy on Twitter. He took a shot at me (like any PR pro would) and gave this link:

http://www.mac-sports.com/Schools/Ohio/LiveStreaming.aspx

Maybe  it won't be blacked out? He wasn't clear.

Based on last week's NIU game, those of you not lucky enough to be in Athens, but still in Ohio should be able to see the game free and clear on the MAC site. So why black out ESPN3? Who knows.

We are going to be a 3 TD favorite.  Its unusual in that this opened at 10.  You very rarely see a line move that much.

Now, I see what you're getting at, L.C.  I have Time Warner cable and I'm blacked out.
