This is the last afternoon of a visit by my Oregon son and his family.  I've just logged on and for now won't take time to read all the posts on last night's debacle.  Instead, for now, I will pose just one question: How many are still defending Ohio's strength program?

Maybe we need a team pharmacist or supplemental nutritionist.

ding ding ding...I'd love to know if the Buffs O+D line have the same kind of scores as ours?  Dunno how you find that stuff out but there must be "standards" for D1 athletes in all those categories and comparisons should be able to be made.  Then again at some point is it just planning, preparation and execution or is it brute strength.  I tend to think we just don't get "tuff" guys to Athens.  One example might be a guy who was a 3-star athlete from a local high school.  Great kid and family and doing well this season.  But is his persona that of a  Kahlil Mack?  Don't think so.  Their "scores" could all be the same but some footballers are just tougher than others...ATTITUDE on the field.  Buffs had that last night and I am not sure I have ever seen it out of our teams.

The body language that stood out to me last night was:

Buffalo: A lot of clapping on the sidelines in unison, general excitement

Ohio: A lot of palms in the air like they were confused

I though Ohio's defensive line played exceptionally well in the first half, but got worn down, or emotionally down in the second half, neither of which should happen. I hesitate to blame the strength program, though, because so many of the players are very recent additions to the program.  Sayles, Basham, McLeod, and Tautiaiki are all new this year, while Kendrick Smith and Laseak have both been around only a year.

The senior starters on the offensive line are another story. They have been in the program a long time. Nevertheless all of them have been out part of the year with injuries. They were able to play, but were they 100%?

The end result is that nothing about this game puts me in a position to assess the overall effectiveness of the strength program.

Just returned from dropping my son and his family off at the airport for their return to Duck Country - i.e., Eugene, Oregon.

It wasn't just last night, L.C.  I won't dispute that our OL and DL  have added depth, but I am questioning the quality of that depth.  I recognize that part of the seeming OL weakness is  running a read option spread offense when virtually the only 'option' is the QB handing off to a RB.  A telling moment last night was when Ray Bentley (correct sp?) noted that Ohio had gained 11 yards on 8 carries.

How many times this season have we seen our OL fail to spring RBs?  How many times have we seen our DL get shredded?

BG will be another stern test of Ohio strength and will or, as another poster mentioned above, "attitude."

We have not had an undue amount of injuries.

It would just be nice to see either or both of our lines dominate against a team that isn't horrible.

It does start in the trenches.     Unfortunately, for us it ain't starting there....so it's ending there.
