Buffalo hasn't beaten anyone, so their 6-2 record is easy to dismiss.  But they have beaten every team they should have and done it handily (unlike one of our games.)  Our players can't fall into the "haven't beaten anyone" trap or they will beat us.

However, I think we rise to the occasion.  If some of our probable/questionable guys come back ready to go, I fully expect us to come out of Buffalo with a W.

The road to Detroit starts in a week.  If ever there was a time for us to play four quarters, it is now.

Our passing offense will be the key in this game.  We should be able to use the pass to set up the run.  We're 33rd in D1A in passing offense, they're 76th in passing D.  But we need to be careful -- they're also 8th best in interceptions (13 in 8 games).  Giving up so many yds but getting so many picks is a really strange mix.

I have a bad feeling about this game. We've gone up there with significantly better teams than Buffalo and the best case scenario has been games that are much closer than they should be, but at worst we've flat out lost or even gotten our asses kicked. Buffalo has evened things up and is rolling. 

That said, maybe we'll play better given that there will actually be a decent football atmosphere this time. We can't be lulled to sleep with 12 fans who are 8 miles from the actual field.

What I take from that is that they have really aggressive defensive backs.  They take chances and sometimes they win, sometimes they lose.  Play action should be good for us.

It sounds really simple, but if Ohio can score on this team it should win. Buffalo's offense hasn't played a defense with a pulse since Baylor in Week 2. Khalil Mack and the defense has been outstanding, basically holding the other team down for a half until the offense catches up in the second half after adjustments.

If the Bobcats are to win, they need to jump on them early and often. If it's a 10-7 or 14-10 Buffalo lead at half, watch out. The offense has been great making second half adjustments and putting points on the board.

Also, shut down Branden Oliver. Please.

As someone who watches every Ohio and Buffalo game, I'll tell you this...Buffalo is the more talented team.

Buffalo DOMINATED their opponents? Did Buffalo dominate Stony Brook when they had to take 5OTs to win by a FG? Did Buffalo dominate UMass by waiting until the 4th quarter to score their first offensive TD of the game?

Ohio's seniors have won more games in 4+ years than Buffalo has won since joining FBS 14 years ago but you're telling me the Bulls have more talent than we do??

Look, really bad Buffalo teams (as if there's been any other kind) have been known to give Ohio fits in the past,  but lets not run wild with suggesting that they've not only caught up with us but have past us. Buffalo has to play Ohio, Toledo and BG still, winning 1 of those games says nothing about their abilities, 2 wins will say they have a decent team, and if they win all 3 THEN I'll give them credit for having a fine season.

But until that happens, I'm not impressed. Or worried.

By the same token Perimeterpost, exactly whom have we beaten in the MAC so far this year?  The 3 worst teams.   And the one-half decent team in the MAC we have played we lost to, at home on Homecoming Weekend of all weekends!   I'm not sure Ohio's in the position of minimizing Buffalo's opponents.

People can talk down Buffalo all they want here but the fact is that they're first in the MAC and if they beat us, we're basically eliminated.

YES, I think Buffalo is more talented than Ohio.

Khalil Mack, Branden Oliver, Alex Neutz, Adam Redden, Colby Way...Those are five studs right there.

Mack is going to be a top 15 pick and Oliver has a chance at getting drafted. So while Ohio has won more consistently the last four years, I have no issues saying that the Bulls are more talented.

Coaching and quarterback play has held them back in the past. Those things haven't been an issue this year.

Joe Licata is 9-3 as the Bulls starting QB. So laugh off UB but they've been pretty darn good since he's taken over.

One other thing, just because I believe that Buffalo is very talented doesn't mean that I'm picking them to win.

Coaching and quarterback play are HUGE in college football. I think the fact that we have Solich and Tettleton masks some of our other flaws.

It should be a good game. I'll be there supporting the Cats but don't think I'm going to be delusional and expect an easy win!

Well, I'd say the 4 worst teams, by a very wide margin, are Miami, EMU, WMU, and U. Mass. Ohio has so far only played 2 of those, while Buffalo has played 3 of them.

I agree with that. I think the line will be a bit closer than that but I definitely think it'll be a close game.

My main concern is if Ohio goes on a scoring slump like what we saw against CMU. Buffalo has a very good defense which is only allowing 16 points per game if you throw away the Baylor contest.

Teams have been doubling and tripling Mack, opening things up for their other defenders. Way and Redden have been the one's capitalizing but Redden is out this week.

The one thing that gives me confidence is that the Bulls haven't played a solid passing team since Baylor. Tettleton is the best quarterback they've faced since Bryce Petty so I think he'll have a chance to put up some good numbers.

I know you are in Buffalo, but I know football. Buffalo has a tough time against the passing game, Mack is a great rushing defender able to make open field tackles. Stony Brook played Buffalo tough. They did it with 300 yards passing, Buffalo gives up 260 yards on average through the air. Looking at the EMU game against Buffalo, EMU got 140+ yards rushing but failed to get 200 yards passing. I think this game comes down to the trenches, and I will take the Bobcats line over Buffalo's that might be why Frank is grinning right now. He knows the only way Buffalo has a chance is to control the Lines of Scrimmage which is the fight OHIO wants.

I agree. If there's a weakness on the Bulls defense, it's their secondary. They're not bad but certainly not great. The one thing Buffalo has very well in though is create turnovers. They're 2nd in the country in turnover differential.

Tettleton will be only the 3rd solid QB they face all year (B. Miller and B. Petty) and I think he'll get his yardage.

One thing about the EMU 140+ rushing, they had a useless 75 yard TD in garbage time. Eliminate that and they had barely anything. The Bulls run defense has shut down teams. It's been a rarity for teams to do well against them this year.

I know it sounds like I'm pumping Buffalo up a lot (which I am) but a lot of it has to do with people's misperceptions of them. I'm just trying to give you guys as good of a scouting report on them as I can considering the fact that I watch all of there games.

*I'm a UB grad student, I'm allowed to talk about what miserable pieces of crap the school administration/bureaucracy is toward students. Seriously, of the 3 schools I've been associated with, the UB admin is far and away the one most deserving of being sent over Niagara Falls

- Buffalo did not give Ohio State a good game, it was 23-0 at the end f the first quarter, Buckeyes were on cruise control the rest of the game.

- Ohio lost to CMU, a team with a better record than any team Buffalo has beat.

- It does not diminish our last 4 seasons to look at the records of the teams we beat because we beat teams with winning records. Since Buffalo had their lone winning season in 2008 they have had ONE win against a team with a winning record. Four and half seasons, ONE win vs a winning team. Frustratingly, that one win was against Ohio, but that one game doesn't diminish our success the last 4 years, and it doesn't mean Buffalo wasn't awful the last 4 years either. They were.

- It didn't turn out well for Kent State because they are a terrible team. Ohio is not a terrible team.

As I said before, a win over Ohio won't validate Buffalo's accomplishments this year either, they need to win at least 2 of 3 against Ohio, Toledo and BG to prove they're not just slightly better than awful.

Yes, and Ohio State had less than 300 yards passing, because when you are up 23-0 all you need to do is run the ball. I can't help but count all the plays that were huge amounts of yards just because they broke one tackle and got into open field. Yards are yard be it in garbage or not, it does tell you that other than Mack they can be beat on the big run play; not that anyone depends on that.

We can win but I agree that it will be tough to run on Beefs and that they have better standout players (top handful of guys...Neutz is tough).  Hopefully, our passing game is on and everyone of our deeper depth guys brings his top game.

Any thoughts on what the weather will be and its potential effect?

At the same time, Ohio lost to CMU. So you can try to look at schedules and come up with conclusions...I'm just not buying it.

With that argument, you can basically diminish Ohio's last four seasons...Which I don't think any of us would do so why do it for Buffalo.

Many Kent fans said many of the same things you are saying now last week. That didn't turn out well for them.


- Buffalo did not give Ohio State a good game, it was 23-0 at the end f the first quarter, Buckeyes were on cruise control the rest of the game.


So when Ohio State was leading only 30-20 with four minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Buffalo wasn't in it? Stop with the BS. Sure Buffalo was never going to win but actually watch the game before spewing stuff like that.
